Your ignition catches, the engine roar piercing the night air, urgent. Where did you even get this car? Post-prohibition, a petrol-burner requires an expensive "historic vehicle" permit... But you paid your buddy to build you an unregistered one out of scrapyard parts instead. No GPS, no speed limiter, and (bonus!) no NMPD transponder.

There's no petrol at all in Neo Metro anymore, so the engine is modded to run on used soybean oil, which means it always smells vaguely like tempura.

Fast as hell though.

An escapist retreat for those with the means to afford it, halfway between a nightclub and a boutique design district. Multiple levels, a high ceiling, and a VIP section guarded by a heavily augmented bouncer.

It's actually kind of clean here. People with outstanding NMPD warrants can’t even set foot here due to facial rec, so your clean(ish) record might pay off after all.

Potted palms line the walkway. They look real (and expensive) as you approach the third one on the left, as the client said. You reach through the trunk, a holographic facade, withdrawing a package that’s thankfully small; attracting any more attention would be a liability. You wonder what it could be, then remember:

Hardly anybody leaves the city anymore. Subway tunnels crossed the river, but the Executive Board Union never dealt with the flooding. No corporate profits to be made in the suburbs, so not much infrastructure left to get you there.

Mostly drone depots across the river, both e-commerce and military. But some other operations prefer the less-regulated outer zones. Datacenters, agrarian collectives, unlicensed labs for human enhancement, social hangout spots for the (rightfully) paranoid.

The concrete is crumbled, but your practiced hand steers on muscle memory, slaloming through the damage you’ve passed so many times before. You think about taking a vacation with your earnings.

03 Viaduct Overpass

This club used to be the terminal station for the Pink Line.

The tunnel is sealed to keep out flooding, and the tracks have been epoxied over into a dance floor, which is frosted from wear. The LEDs sealed inside look like they're encased in ice.

This place has less overt 'security,' but most of the clubgoers are packing hardware, whether augmentations or plain ol' lead-and-steel. Traditionalists.

If people at the Promenade are escaping to something, the people here are escaping from something. As you pass the package to the bartender, they offer you a drink — looks like bathtub gin made out of high-grade military UAV fuel, the origin of which everyone knows better than to ask.

Hard pass.

In the interregnum after the Coalition collapsed, and before the EBU took over, the lack of regulation resulted in some 'creative' constructions in the alleyways of Neo Metropolis (or whatever it was called then; the name seems to have been in dispute).

The EBU generally turns a blind eye to these pre-code barnacles, as long as the business licenses (and corporate tribute payments) are all paid up. Squats are also common: scrappy DIY capsule dwellings cantilevered off the sides of buildings.

This pre-fab pod siphons power and hot water from exposed conduits (feeding a megacorp that recently made Sheng Xin Magazine's "Lucky 8" index). It's got a great view of the bustle below.

A score i composed for Sender Fils Reel Rock 9 : Valley Uprising.

Sender Films, have made a feature-length documentary about the counterculture history of rock climbing,Valley Uprising.  Narrated by film star, Peter Sarsgaard, VU traces the roots of this wild sport to Yosemite Valley, California, following its evolution from the first beatnik pioneers of the 196-'s to the cutting edge modern athletes like Alex Honnold. Think Dogtown and Z-Boys of rock climbing.

The Los Angeles-born and Charlottesville, Virginia-based, Abel Okugawa, creates a wizardry of dizzying trance, dance, and down-tempo grooves that are inspirational and majestic. “Winds” is one of the singles from Abel Okugawa’s three-hundred-plus song library, which is fairly impressive in its own right. The three-and-a-half minute song is a sweeping, electronic song of exotic candor.

The song opens with a swishy, buzz-laden introduction that merges into a dance-frenzied and electrified display of sound with wispy vocals. The immense electronic embellishments are all-encompassing and impressive. The percussive beats are fairly up-tempo in a light manner. 

Despite the lack of pounding dance-heavy grooves, Abel still finds a way to make dance music stand out with creativity, expressivity, and panache with showers of electronic sparks, a dizzying array of metallic noises and buzzes, and a symphonic wash unlike anything else that has been created. The vocals repeat a few lines throughout the song, but the result is never too repetitive. 

In the same manner, the instrumental arrangements are varied and majestic from the start. The 

pulsating beats are not too loud or too fast to interrupt the overlaying vocals. 

Abel Okugawa’s new single, “Winds,” is an engaging tune with all the elements of greatness: a catchy beat, perfect instrumental arrangements, and great vocals. The electronic elements are a mix of noises and sounds that seem to work flawlessly. At times, the music is very dreamy with vocals akin to Michael Cretu (of Enigma-fame) and Savage Garden in a house, trance, dance sort of mix. Overall, Abel turns the electronica genre upside down with a sweeping song of electric brilliance without any issues. Fans of dance, electronica, and great music overall will love the sounds.

This album is far reaching, ranging from Enchanting Melodic Beats to Future Hip-Hop and will take you on an audio journey through sound-scapes that are both catchy and profoundly interesting to listen to. All the music has that special Abel Okugawa Dub Style and sound that has been compared to the likes of Bjork, Tricky and Lee “Scratch” Perry. This is the most definitive album from Okugawa to date .
