Forgotten

Mix made as part of the 8th chapter on El Laboratorio, a podcast conducted by Domingo Dark Vinyl in which he dives deep into some quality underground labels or artists. This time, I was responsible for preparing a podcast about Silent Servant, one of my favourite producers. 

As part of that chemical experiment, there is a side-formulae in which those labels or artists are presented in a mix. In this case, some of the tracks presented in the podcast have been selected for the mix, some other new tracks have been included. This is the result.

Orlando Voorn, the artist:

He who started in the late 80's as a successful DMC DJ in The Netherlands, mixing electro and hip-hop tracks, established thenafter an historic musical connection between Amsterdam and Detroit. Orlando Voorn's unique signature of early productions, analog tweaks, funky beats and cosmic chords, quickly attracted the attention of the like of Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson, for which he produced game changing classic tracks like "Game One (as Infiniti)" and "Fix (as Flash)" in the early 90's only to continue to do so until today on numerous labels (R&S, Fragile, Nightvision…) and under various aliases (Playboy, Ghetto Brothers, Format…).

Orlando Voorn, Collected EP #1:

First Ep (of four) announcing the forthcoming Orlando Voorn COLLECTED double CD that will showcase what we believe is the best from the Dutch producer in his early days. This EP focuses on the housier side of Orlando Voorn and gather on one slice of wax 4 useful classic tracks for the djs.

For the first X/OZ release of 2018 we have brand new material from Russian musical prodigy Nikita Zabelin. His first release in two years, Nikita brings us a fresh take on minimal techno with a breadth of styles and approaches to the genre. Previously releasing on Nina Kraviz’s Trip label this will be Nikita’s X/OZ debut. This release, Trans Siberian Express also features a remix by label head Exos, thus combining the forces of both artists to create the Russian/Icelandic collaboration of the year.

OVERVIEW:
NX1 are Samot and Surit, childhood friends and long-time production partners. Hailing from the same town in Majorca the pair have spent the last ten years developing a mutual passion and utopic vision for contemporary techno as individual artists, a collaboration now formally coming to fruition as Nexe Records. 

The project launched discreetly enough last year with the NX1 series. No track titles—only numbers, self-released and limited to just 200 pressings, the catalogue (totalling three EPs, with a fourth on the way) wears the “no-nonsense” insignia boldly pinned to its lapels, collectively posing as a commanding and stripped back showcase of music very literally speaking for itself. Indeed it is a concept that repeats throughout the remainder of the NX1 discography, and features once again here: the duo’s first four track EP, and debut release for M_Rec Ltd.

Seasoned NX1 followers will find the duo packing even more of a punch this time as the pair push proven scopey soundscapes and thundering basslines into deeper, darker extremities. If the latest NX1 self-releases have adopted more dub-techno tones, then ‘MR’ returns to earlier blueprints culminating in four moreish variants of sleek and driving techno. From the groovy hypnotism of “MR1” and “MR3” to the swirling strung-out highs of “MR2”, down to the sludgy depths of closer “MR4”, the NX1 message resonates loud and clear: Music is nexus. Plug into the system.

Première : Too Smooth Christ - Banyuls Pyramids

Like a warm breeze drifting in over the sea from a white isle, Mazzo's six-track EP has summer written all over it.

Gentle Winds is an apt title for the range of clearly Balearic-influenced tracks here, taking in hands-in-the-air piano house on Baby I Let You A Bath In, 80s-style hot-funk electro on Blue Field, blissed-out ambient on Cosmic Kiss, and sun-kissed conga-led downtempo on Natural Living.

Across the EP Berlin-based producer Mazzo keeps the atmosphere sweet, smooth, and oh-so-hot. Perfect for the days we all wish would return: beach-bound, bar-side, and vibe-soaked.

”Discontinuity” as a release is my attempt at trying to be unpredictable with electronic  music, even though all tracks are based on loops. The main focus of this EP is trying to approach a more cleaner sound while maintaining a warm comforting dreamscape. These songs have been inspired by clear water and the sounds of insects. All tracks of this release have hidden structures, so if you listen closely to certain components you hopefully get your brain zapped in a good stimulating way.

This EP is a charity release and all profit will be donated to the ongoing crisis of Yemen through Finn Church Aid.
