The truth in your youth never meant to last

It just hung in the air like an albatross
Flyin strait into a triple double cross
By your mom and dad and three best friends
It’s like that desert you wish would never end
Cuz the conveyor belt blokes at the station
Watch daytime TV and eat burnt lettuce on vacation
Life is a chart and theirs has stagnation
It’ll be Wall St again under close investigation
The men in Zucotti and the ladies there too
All want to make a fool out of you
Cuz turnabout’s fair play and all in war
When live isn’t “give”—it always is “more”

Parents teach their darling kids to sip satisfaction
And any free-flowing trough is a foolish distraction
And when they grow up, they live in tragic suspense
Between one life to live and give in to common sense

Me, I don’t know a salient truth from an unmitigated disaster
I’d build a house of marble cuz it lasts longer than plaster
I wanted a lively tongue but I got one confused dirge to sing
In the end, everybody everywhere just wants to do the right thing
