The latest release from Ziger’s Eat My Hat imprint welcomes Ruben Karapetyan to the label for his debut single. Born in Armenia and now based in California, Ruben has a long history in electronic music. Best known for his DJ Darky alias, the Hollywood resident shared the stage with famous artists like Sasha & Digweed, Sven Vath and Orbital as part of lineups at legendary events such as Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) , Together as One (biggest NY party in America), AgeHa in Tokyo Japan, VNVNC Concert Hall in St. Petersburg and Pravda in Moscow, Russia. Operating under a variety of production monikers, Ruben has remixed The Cure’s ‘Forest’, while his original productions were routinely championed by the underground’s top tastemakers. Following a ten-year hiatus, Ruben made a triumphant return to electronic music last year with a series of the releases via Tash’s Movement Recordings. Backed by remixes from Emi Galvin, Matan Caspi and Stan Kolev, Ruben earned praise and support from the underground’s top tastemakers while enjoying an extended stay in Beatport’s Progressive House charts. Now in a year has seen further projects for Movement and Lowbit Records, Ruben adds Eat My Hat to his resume with ‘Thoughts/Cry Of Duduk’, alongside a remix from label boss Ziger.
 
The release begins with the peak time vibes of ‘Thoughts’. Smooth and driving throughout, it carries a sleek yet powerful quality from the outset. Gaining momentum across the first act, the piece moves through layers of detailed percussion, alien-like effects and shifting harmonics, as cross-cultural motifs push the narrative into the main break. The emotional mood expands across the centrepiece with transcendent themes playing off gaseous atmospheres, before a gentle shift sets the course for an exhilarating finale. The companion piece ‘Cry Of Duduk’ follows a similar sonic ethos and resonates on an equally impressive level. Remarkably powerful, its muscular groove commands attention, moving through rolling contours and rhythmic pulses, while ethnic fragments and lively percussion add character and bounce to the framework. Sweeping effects initiate the main break, eventually melting down to a reservoir of shape shifting electronics and emotive chord changes, perfectly elevating mood and setting the stage for a mystical final act.

Rounding out the release and providing the lone interpretation of ‘Cry Of Duduk’ is Ziger. The Greek artist and Eat My Hat boss has continued to impress across 2021 with key collaborations with Mind Conspiracy and Nosh & SJ, while also remixing Gabriel Filip & Goda Brother and Ric Niels in fine style. Now getting the fall season underway in impressive fashion, Ziger delivers a powerful rendition of ‘Cry Of Duduk’. Electrically charged with tough beats and a tighter take on the groove, it’s pulsating energy beams brightly from the outset. Combining dynamic rhythms with striking chord stabs and commanding percussion makes for an exhilarating first act. As momentum builds, the cross-cultural vocal blankets the framework for a spiritual sound collage, before giving way to a menacing break which spearheads a thunderous finale. A massive remix from Ziger which should be delighting dancefloors all through the fall season. It not only caps the release off on a high note but makes Ruben’s Eat My Hat debut a resounding success. Highly recommended.

Welcome back Miyagi with his new single "Khan" featuring vocals by Haptic. The tune start's calm and reduced, sparkled with little synth bits before the unique and dark vocal by Haptic hit's in. Throughout the end the track opens up into a beautiful soundscape full of mesmerizing pads and effects. Darin Epsilon's take on "Khan" is more housy and functional with a warm synth hookline. Squire's remix is straight forward with a floating 16th arp line next to freaky modulated FX.

Ever since Canadian duo Beije released their debut single on Manual Deep, they've been making regular appearances on the Dutch record company's various labels. Last year they've already appeared on Manual Music with the release of their song 'A Memory' on the 'Explorations' various artists album, but now it's time to shine the full spotlight on them with their solo double A-sider 'Viscera' / 'Sigil'. Two peak time melodic proggy pieces of dancefloor candy that will surely appeal to many.

Argentinian producer Emi Galvan returns on Manual Music and has reworked 'Sigil' into an incredibly infectious peak time progressive house burner. This one has got 'hit record' written all over it with it's relentless drive and big portion of funk. Bombs away!

The latest release from Clubsonica Records finds the label showcasing the 2020 edition of its ADE Sampler. The Amsterdam Dance Event has become one of electronic music's most important annual gatherings. One where a wide variety of artists, DJ's, event promoters and industry brands are showcased over the week-long event. In the wake of CoronaVirus, the 2020 incarnation will be a unique experience, with the event happening virtually, in an online or digital only format. The much anticipated gathering continues to be a testing ground for the fall season's biggest releases. Compiled by label boss Juan Pablo Torrez, Clubsonica Records presents the much anticipated 2020 edition of their ADE Sampler, with new music from (in order of appearance) Brian Muszkat, Mariano Favre, Mental Order and Tim Othy, Stae and Wabe.

Hailing from Argentina and leading the collection off is Brian Muszkat. The Buenos Aires resident has been rising out of his country's progressive music scene with support from Hernan Cattaneo. Now embarking on the most anticipated release of his career, Brian presents his latest studio creation 'Balder'. Beginning with warm beats and a well sculpted groove, its energetic prowess grows quickly. Waves of percussion and squelchy synth lines add a flair for the dramatic, as cosmic effects and hypnotic arps highlight the first act. The second of two breaks brings tension up through mind bending sonics, as modulation peaks and the groove drops for a commanding finish.

Providing the second selection is Mariano Favre. Releases on Balkan Connection, Dopamine White and Perspectives Digital highlight his discography as he makes his Clubsonica debut with 'Overthinking'. Tough beats, mountainous bass tones and rolling percussion set the piece in motion, as striking stabs and trailing effects encase the framework. Tense arps further the narrative, perfectly foreshadowing a spoken word vocal which captivates across the first of two breaks. Momentum builds as the second interlude approaches, beautifully offset by icy vocal pads, before a trippy arp builds to a sonic sizzle, perfectly segueing into a charged finale.

The collection's halfway point is marked by Mental Order and Tim Othy. Now making their much anticipated Clubsonica debut, they deliver one of their biggest productions to date 'Cantina'. Powerful, pulsating and full of intricate detail, the first act builds with a dynamic flair. Developing in waves, percussive flurries and electric lines fill in the framework, before an expansive break shifts the narrative into emotive territory. Impassioned chord changes and charming effects steal the air across the two-minute centrepiece, eventually giving way to a storming final movement.

Next up is Mexico's César Hernández aka Stae with 'Yibuti'. Enticing from the start, it's perfectly sculpted beats are warm and powerful, anchored by a rolling, free flowing foundation. Layers of hypnotic percussion are blanketed with hopeful pads, swirling effects and fragmented melodies. Emotion peaks as the main break unfolds, with a cascading theme and frantic arps eventually getting washed away in a wall of buzzing electronics, as a commanding drop shifts energy into an exhilarating finale.

Rounding out the release on a strong note are the Italian duo WABE. Now bringing their melodic sound to Clubsonica the duo put a bookend on the Sampler with 'Across the Border'. Boisterous and commanding, its momentum grows as punishing beats, astral arps and growling synths set the stage for a motif of soulful strums. Shifting the narrative, the framework then opens up for the theme to breathe and emotional response to rise, before a pensive break puts a cap on this musical gem. Tastefully epic, it concludes a brilliant ADE Sampler from Clubsonica Records, one where a plethora of label debutants provides a series of peak time moments.
