We sometimes forget that music is cyclical. As a new generation of clubbers discover sounds for the first time, they mistakenly believe the decades old genres are somehow a new phenomenon. The styles we attach to the terms techno, trance, progressive, and house are moving targets at best — words that are now redefined on an almost weekly basis.

Cycles is Max Graham’s “Yearly Snapshot” of his own musical journey, a collection representing the natural progression in his taste. As always with Cycles, the elements of melody shine through this classically mixed compilation (like Graham’s own ‘Redemption’ and his remix of Solid Stone and Jennifer Rene’s haunting vocal tune ‘Not Enough’), but much like his successful career over so many years, the mix takes a wide arc of influence as it moves from Tim Penner’s lovely piano opening to Alex Di Stefano’s tough as nails ‘Black Panther’ and back down to a perfectly fitting closing track by Gai Barone entitled ‘Psycles’ (written exclusively for this mix).

Solid Stone, a mainstay in Graham’s set list, has no less than three unreleased tracks. Also making two appearances is rising star Thomas Vink whose production style effortlessly combines organic Techno beats with beautiful melody and emotion. From Guy J’s progressive label Lost n Found to Techno’s Drumcode and Yin Yang, ‘Cycles’ once again celebrates all that’s good on that dance floor regardless of genre.

Like Cycles Radio this compilation showcases the ongoing diversity and evolution in Graham’s sound, it’s the closest representation to what you’ll feel at a 6+ hour Open to Close set condensed into 78 minutes of well- constructed bliss. As the musical landscape changes we welcome this, the 6th revolution of Cycles and are eager to see where the pioneer heads next.

As OceanLab, Above & Beyond and Justine Suissa have had an incredible year. Their debut album "Sirens Of The Sea" gained widespread critical acclaim, including glowing reviews from Mixmag, DJ Magazine, M8 and IDJ. 

Now they return to close 2008 with "Breaking Ties", their third single from the album. First to the remix platform and fresh from their success in DJ Magazine's Top 100 poll where they achieved the highest British entry at No.4, are Above & Beyond themselves, who have produced a truly sublime club re-work with their "Analogue Haven Mix". Demand for this remix has been off the scale since it made its debut on Above & Beyond's Anjunabeats Volume Six compilation. 

On the b-side of the vinyl release we have a remix from star German producer Martin Roth who delivers his own unique sound once more. Mr Roth is no stranger to remixing OceanLab releases having worked with them on their last single "Miracle".  This mix builds up gradually, first paying homage to the dreamy vocals of Justine Suissa before dropping in the familiar Roth beats. 

To complete the CD and Digital package we have a masterful techy remix from Duderstadt, a deep and melodic Maor Levi remix and a fantastic progressive rework from Jaytech and James Grant, who prove themselves to be a production duo to be reckoned with. There really is something for everyone in this package.

With its lyrical inspiration focusing on the bitterness of an insular, introverted character who lives out his frustrations in the virtual world of the internet, “Black Room Boy” is driven by the vocals of Above & Beyond’s own Tony McGuinness – who penned the song’s lyrics –with the familiar tones of Richard Bedford adding a second layer in the chorus.   

A stand-out moment in Above & Beyond’s recent sets everywhere from Australia to Hawaii, the driving progressive-influenced Above & Beyond Club Mix is an unraveling epic with many peaks and a deep, emotive breakdown.
