Dancefloors have been quiet for the past year, but Anjunabeats hasn’t been. Twenty acts curated their own mix compilation of catalogue hits. Above & Beyond took to the Thames in London for a four hour livestream. Anjunabeats partnered with iconic designer Mark Farrow for a series of merch. There were forward-thinking albums from Mat Zo, Trance Wax and ilan Bluestone, while the Rising EP series ushered in a new generation of producers and ideas with melody at their heart.
 
Summer 2021 sees an eclectic selection of house and techno producers take centre stage reworking nine Above & Beyond hits. ‘20 Years of Anjunabeats - The Deep Mixes’ features Anjunadeep regulars Dosem, Nox Vahn, Braxton and Jon Gurd, plus All Day I Dream’s Newman (I Love) and Shai T, two acts heavily supported in Tony McGuinness’ Twitch livestream sets over the past year. There’s melodic house from Mem Aleph and M.O.S., with Khen and Boxer and Amy Wiles providing some more up-tempo moments.
 
‘The Deep Mixes’ compilation features remixes of singles from Above & Beyond’s debut album ‘Tri-State’, as well as remixes of vocal anthems from their renowned 'Group Therapy’ album.

This 24-track, two-disc compilation is finally out now across all stores.

"The year of lockdown became the year of deep for me. With no Above & Beyond gigs to fly off to I spent the time at home immersing myself in Anjunadeep and beyond, and playing long DJ sets from my kitchen - and beyond! Along the way we’ve got to know some super talented producers and have managed to persuade a good many of them to get involved in our 20 years of Anjunabeats remix initiative. The result is a dozen awesome remixes spanning the full range of deep house flavours, from the Organic realm of A.M.R, M.O.S., Mem Aleph, Khen, Newman (I Love) and Shai T, through the futuristic progressive house of Alex O’Rion and breaks of Jon Gurd and Braxton and up to the more banging end of things with Dosem, Nox Vahn, Boxer and Amy Wiles. What’s been the most pleasant surprise of the year for me is how at home many of these songs feel at home at these lower tempos and in these more relaxed styles, certainly a lesson for me going forward. On July 1, Anjunadeep regulars M.O.S. deliver the third single from 'The Deep Mixes’ compilation: an organic house remix of Above & Beyond’s “Prelude”, an emotive fan-favourite pulled from the trio’s acclaimed second studio album, ‘Group Therapy.'

Releasing on labels such as All Day I Dream, Shanti Radio Moscow, Kindisch and their own imprint ‘Melody Of the Soul’, the trio have been supported by Jason Bentley at KCRW, Marsh, Lee Burridge, and Eelke Klein. 

The M.O.S. Remix of Above & Beyond’s ‘Prelude’ was debuted in Tony McGuinness’ Anjunadeep Edition 319 mix last year. On 24 July, the extended mix was included in the 20 Years Of Anjunabeats: The Deep Mixes compilation, exclusively on Beatport. Now, the remix is available in full across all streaming platforms.

On July 8, Anjunadeep regulars Braxton and Jon Gurd deliver the fourth & fifth singles from 'The Deep Mixes' compilation.

Braxton is a rising talent from Brighton in the UK. He’s had radio support in over 30 countries with spins on top stations like BBC Radio 1, SiriusXM, and Kiss FM and is responsible for Anjunadeep’s favourites “Chiaroscuro” and “Indigo”. Braxton’s debut EP on Anjunadeep, entitled ‘Indigo’, dropped earlier in 2021.

Braxton has delivered a lush, breakbeat remix of ‘Eternal’, the cinematic closing track from Above & Beyond’s acclaimed 2011 album ‘Group Therapy’.

“The ‘Group Therapy’ album was one of my favourites from Above & Beyond, so I’ve been wanting to do a remix like this for about ten years. ‘Eternal’ is a hugely nostalgic track, so getting the opportunity to remix it was super exciting and something I couldn’t wait to share.” - Braxton

Veteran DJ and producer Jon Gurd came up in the UK underground in the early 2000s. A resident at Bournemouth’s legendary Slinky, he toured alongside Mauro Picotto and Paul Van Dyk and collaborated with Drumcodes Alan Fitzpatrick and Reset Robot. His LP ‘Lion’, was released in 2020 on Anjunadeep to critical acclaim, with a proportion of the sales going to a UK charity supporting children with epilepsy.

"Quieter Is Louder" is the emotive opening track from Above & Beyond’s third full length studio album, 'We Are All We Need’ (2015).

On July 15, Khen and Shai T deliver the sixth & seventh singles from 'The Deep Mixes' compilation. 

Hailing from Tel Aviv, Khen is a renowned global touring artist known for inimitably deep, dark, and intense productions. Alongside the likes of Guy J, Guy Gerber and Sasha, he has emerged formidably out of the Israeli electronic music hot bed onto the international stage.  Khen made his label debut on Anjunadeep in 2018 with his primal double cut ‘Closing Doors / Burgundy'. Now, his deep house remix of Above & Beyond’s “Every Little Beat” marks the Israeli producer’s first release on Anjunabeats. 

Featuring the vocals of Richard Bedford (the voice of hits like "Sun & Moon" and "Thing Called Love"), "Every Little Beat" is an emotive single from Above & Beyond's acclaimed ‘Group Therapy’ album. 

“Like thousands of producers in my generation, Above & Beyond has been a big inspiration to me over the last 20 years. To get to do an official remix for them is a dream come true,” says Khen.

Another Israeli, All Day I Dream label regular Shai T debuted on Anjuna with an appearance on last year’s ‘Anjunadeep Explorations 13’ EP. His productions have been regularly supported by Tony McGuinness in his popular deep sets on Twitch, and he has achieved multiple Beatport #1 singles in the last year. This remix is his Anjunabeats label debut.

“Sweetest Heart” also hails from Above & Beyond’s 2011 ‘Group Therapy’ album, and features the iconic vocals of frequent collaborator Zoë Johnston.

"It was a special feeling to remix an Above & Beyond track… re-touching Zoë Johnston's vocals felt like remixing a choir of angels,” Shai T says.

On July 22, A.M.R and Newman (I Love) deliver the eighth and ninth singles from 'The Deep Mixes' compilation. 

A.M.R is the alias of Qatari producer Amr Hachicho. His career began in 2008 with trance releases on Enhanced Recordings, and he immediately gained support from some of the genres biggest names, like Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren and Tiesto. A decade later, A.M.R switched gears, diving into deeper, progressive sounds with a series of EPs on Monstercat Silk. This year, A.M.R made his Anjunadeep debut with “Central Park”, the emotive closing track from ‘Anjunadeep Explorations 17. Off the back of that release, he took the reins on a coveted ABGT Guest Mix spot (Group Therapy 409).

Producing under his Newman (I Love) alias, Stephan Delacotte is An All Day I Dream label regular best-known for his 10-week chart-topping debut EP, ‘Breath of the Souls.’ He makes his Anjuna debut with a slower-tempo remix of “Love Is Not Enough.” 

“This project started out as a fun experiment when Tony from Above & Beyond discovered my sound and invited me to be a guest on the Deep Set livestream series.  They imagined the vocals of “Love Is Not Enough” on top of my grooves, so they asked me if I would remix the song. They liked my slower tempo and less trancey interpretation so much that this became an official release.” - Newman (I Love)

On July 29, Anjunadeep regular Nox Vahn delivers the tenth single from 'The Deep Mixes’ compilation with his remix of Above & Beyond’s “On My Way To Heaven” (feat. Richard Bedford).

Prodigious American producer Nox Vahn (FKA Fairchild) is a standout act on Anjunadeep. He has garnered support from some of the biggest names in dance — Solomun and BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong to name a few— and has over 207K monthly Spotify listeners. His track “Come Together” was a hit from last year’s Anjunadeep 11 compilation, and has over 3.5 million Spotify streams. This heavy-hitting remix of an Above & Beyond classic is the producer’s second appearance on Anjunabeats after a stellar debut on the ‘Anjunabeats 14’ compilation with “Follow Me” (with Marsh and Mimi Page).

A song that is inspired by the restless, disjointed thoughts that race through the brain at 4am in the morning, Above & Beyond's "On Way Way To Heaven features the iconic vocals of longtime collaborator Richard Bedford. The single was originally released alongside the trance trio’s groundbreaking second studio album, ‘Group Therapy’.

Dutch producer Alex O’Rion is a rising star on Hernan Cattaneo’s SUDBEAT label. Originally producing trance, O’Rion has now found his groove within deeper, progressive sounds. He is regularly supported by the likes of Nick Warren, Guy J, Guy Mantzur, and more. 

Alex O’Rion’s extended remix of Matt Lange’s ‘Rift’ is the highest-selling track on last month’s ‘20 Years Of Anjunabeats: The Deep Mixes’ compilation, which sat in the #1 spot on the Beatport charts for over 2 weeks. Now, it is available on all music platforms. The groove-fuelled and melodic climax to James Grant’s ‘Anjunadeep: 03’ mix, Matt Lange’s ‘Rift’ (2011) is a showcase of the US producer’s unparalleled engineering skill.
