For our first podcast of the series, we present to you French DJ and producer, Farazdeck. An artist with multiple releases under some of the finest deep techno labels including Circular Limited (Spain), Indefinite Pitch (China), Secuencias Temporales (Mexico) and more. 

Last summer Farazdeck shared with us an intelligently crafted live set, casting a dense haze of otherworldly sounds which set a tone over Friday night's magic. Once we were gifted with this mix we had no choice but to invite him back to the valley this June...

This mix is an exemplary musical journey exploring different realms of deep atmospheric sounds. From the outset the listener is lured in by glitchy minimal textures that slip seamlessly into thick percussive beats. The high energy finale rounds off this mix keeping you gripped from start to finish.

As co-founder and musical curator, Passaat’s refined taste in music has helped shape the musical vision of Above Below. These sounds are just a snippet of what will echo around the valley this summer. 

Welcomed by a wave of stillness, a smooth, entrancing journey explores the depths of techno whilst possessing an intricate and ethereal beauty. This well-crafted mix was fashioned with the listener in mind; allowing us to enjoy an array of organic soundscapes, driving kicks and rhythmic blends in the same space. Enjoy the ride.

Passaat | Above Below

Antepop (Tom Durston) is founder and editor-in-chief of Inverted Audio, an evangelist of raw techno and deep house. Practicing his art through vinyl grooves only, his selection gives full vent to extended blends of widescreen electronics, rugged techno and deep house.

This mix explores different realms of Tom’s vast record collection, offering a taster of what to expect at Above Below this summer. Deep, dreamy and ambient textures are a staple in an Antepop DJ set. However, during these two hours we will be travelling on a euphoric, progressive and driving journey. Well thought out energy levels and smooth transitions throughout, featuring records by Rising Sun, Traumprinz, Roman Flügel, Moritz Von Oswald and The Field. We have been eagerly anticipating the release of this podcast for quite some time. London-based Faery is a friend of Above Below, and we were blown away by her set at The Beacon stage, which marked the closing of Above Below 2022. After a dry weekend, the rain poured, forging the perfect environment for the psychedelic techno on display; it was as if Faery herself summoned the downpour.

Once again demonstrating her capacity to hypnotize, Faery has recorded a soundtrack for swamp-dwellers and forest-inhabitants alike. A transfixing hour of contagious groove and otherworldly sounds.

We have invited @vincent-campfens from The Hague, the Netherlands to take us on our next musical journey. Vinsen has become a dear friend over the last few months and we have enjoyed gaining an insight into his passion for discovering deep, emotive and exploratory sounds that align with the musical direction of Above Below. 

Vinsen’s mixes stem from the heart and his personal touch is easily recognisable. This piece is no different. A warm, evolving and inviting story with admirable attention to detail. Sit back and see where the sounds take you.

Vinsen | Above Below

We welcome the duo MARMO to take us on our next voyage. Christian Duka and Marco Maldarella hold a musical relationship that spans boarders, allowing them to draw influence from a range of sources. 

Christian is no stranger to the Above Below family but under the MARMO alias, he sheds new light on his vast skill set. Alongside Marco, they experiment with improvisation and introspective emotional narratives. With past influences including Rock/Metal, the pair are not shy of pushing new boundaries. 

Recorded at Sinestesie(Italy) this mix weaves through downtempo and deep techno to start, progressing effortlessly into components driven by trance and breaks. It's a set that really captures the true essence of their unique style.

MARMO | Above Below

@kimkenis is the next artist to feature on the Above Below mix series. Hailing from Belgium, Kim has made appearances at festivals across Europe including Waking Life and Doel. It is our pleasure to welcome her to the Above Below family. 

The mix fuses numerous styles including Dub, Dub Techno, Deep Techno and House, exploring the intricate areas that these genres can venture to. Percussive, melodic and atmospheric elements flow throughout. Kim's seamless DJ style, combines these components with ease. 

The tone has been set and we look forward to hearing more this June.

Kim Kenis | Above Below

This recording is very special to us. Two hours of sonic bliss from our dear friend Avsluta recorded at the Stone Circle stage at Above Below 2023. As a long-standing resident of the Beacon stage, it was exciting to see how Avsluta would take control of the Stone Circle after she proposed a UK-Bass set early this spring. 

Needless to say, it was easy to see why she wanted to explore this avenue of sound. Avsluta weaved her way through various shades of bass music, expertly intertwining rhythm and groove with the deep atmospheric touch that she is known for. 

As the weekend came to a close and the timeless memories started to settle in, we grew evermore eager to share some of the magic that occurred down in the valley. Hopefully, this mix will help convey a snapshot of the blissful moments experienced over the three days.

Back in June, Dj wiggles gifted the dancers at the Stone Circle this energised and dynamic set.  With the recent launch of Above Below 2024, we are excited to teleport you back to the valley and delve into a selection of sounds that capture the essence of the festival. Dj wiggles elegantly paved the way from dusk into the night, showcasing her ability to create an electric atmosphere, weaving through an eclectic assortment of techno, breaks and more.

A highlight set for many and one we hope you enjoy.

Hame’s productions, performances, and personality radiate warmth; and this podcast is no different. 
 
A dear friend of the festival, whose musical craftsmanship leaves us in awe every time. In June, he guided the Above Below audience through dusk, with a blissful live set, a welcomed embrace, as we prepared for one final night of dancing.   

Hame has gifted us a number of warm, deep, unreleased tracks in this new mix, and we can all share excitement for their release throughout the course of 2024.

Tim may well have been our first-ever international attendee, visiting from Washington in the United States. He mentioned coming alone after spotting the lineup on social media, using it as the perfect excuse to revisit the UK for a musical journey. Since then, he has committed to this annual dance, becoming a true hero of Above Below, cherished dearly in our hearts.

Tsurugi has released podcasts for platforms such as Monument, Sure Thing, and The Vortex, while also gracing the stages of clubs in Berlin, Tokyo, and the United States. In his podcasts, Tsurugi smoothly blends nature and techno, reflecting the symbiosis felt in the Chiltern Hills at Above Below.
