This short wee track was really heavily inspired by the incredible soundtrack of Firewatch, written by Chris Remo. 

I miss writing for video games - the first bits of music I ever wrote were either for game jams or my pals' video games. One of my favourite things about Firewatch is its soundtrack, so I couldn't resist writing a lil piece that I think could fit pretty well into the second half of the game.

Picture the scene: my wonderful friend James and I are electrocuting ourselves with dodgy guitar pedals. We record 2 hours of nonsense. I take 3 seconds of this recording and stretch it out. A drone is born.

Duet for Sonic Pi and Acoustic Guitar is a piece which was inspired by my hometown of Dundee. Dundee is incredibly well known for its live music scene and its advances in game design, both of which shine through in this piece. It explores the relationship between electronic and acoustic sounds, reflecting Dundee's groundbreaking contribution to game design in the 21st century, but also paying homage to its traditional history of 'Jute, Jam, and Journalism'.

The piece allows for much freedom for both the programmer and the guitarist; both performers are given a set of instructions rather than a score. The contrast between the electronic sounds from the Sonic Pi and the raw, unplugged acoustic guitar is an exciting playground for the performers to utilise. The existing random commands in the code are added to by the programmer during the performance, adding to the available scope of reaction from the guitarist as they adapt and respond to the sounds made by the computer.
