Absconded With the Bag, April 2022

Long before I learned how to DJ, I spent time making ordered playlists, sequencing tracks together in a way that felt good to me. Much as an artist spends time deciding how to order tracks on an album, a selector chooses tracks in order to tell a story. Or maybe they don’t, it’s really as deep as you wanna make it. That’s the part that’s been fascinating me lately. In each person’s mix, or playlist, or reposts, they’re sharing with you a peek into their experience, their perspective, a small but tangible part of them. 
All this to say, I’ve started a series of mixtapes, Tape Deck Tales, where I’m recording mixtapes onto cassette tape! This one I’ve done both sides for, but in the future I would love to collaborate, whether you DJ or you just wanna pretend you’re on a  Gangsta Grillz mixtape. What's good fam, we're back on the regular schedule with Tape Deck Tales! This month we're coming at you with a supersized club tape with Sollyy! Sollyy is an upcoming producer and DJ based in western Sydney, Australia. Armed with original tracks and club-thumping sets inspired by the sounds of obscure 90’s hip hop just as much as the contents of a Ministry of Sound CD, Sollyy’s brand of production and DJing is just as unique as it is familiar in today’s landscape. Having opened for the likes of Jarreau Vandal, Church & AP and Nerve as well as being directly involved in countless successful collaborations across Australia and New Zealand’s emerging hip-hop scene, Sollyy continues to establish a sound that can only be called his.
