Throwback Thursday

In Cadence Part 1 is an introduction of Absent Without Love (AWOL) and a declaration of the artist carving out a unique place in the music industry. The journey starts with heartbreak on the 1st track, "Masquerade" then goes into a heartfelt ode to service members with "Gone". AWOL then gives us a lyrical state of the union address with "Sole Purpose", and then takes us on a journey with "Space Odyss3y". The artist sends a message to naysayers with "Hate'n" and provides listeners with a plan of action on how to deal with them in "Worst Nightmare". All of these elements are then tied together at the end of the project with an inspirational track entitled "Don't Hang Around".   Even with the different musical styles AWOL offers on this EP, somehow the artist has managed to create one of the most consistent, unapologetic and authentic pieces of work. Kudos to this new artist, and if AWOL continues this musical path, skies the limit.

Absent Without Love (AWOL) is a unique act who’s lyricism and musical delivery is as expressive as it is engaging; inspiring others to find their own way, even when the path of least resistance appears more desirable. However, AWOL’s persona is all but an act; as she is a U.S. Army veteran who built a promising future in the cybersecurity field, later turning down contracts from organizations such as NASA to pursue a full time musical career, despite what those around her thought of her decision. 
Growing up in upstate New York and currently based in Los Angeles, vocalist, producer and songwriter Jacqueline Carraway discovered an innate passion for music as a young girl, later cultivating her creative journey on her own terms. Surrounded by a musical family, many members of which were in the ministry, AWOL found solace in exploring her multifaceted talents, ranging from singing backup for legacy acts such as Barry Manilow and Foreigner as part of her church's choir to learning how to write and produce original material. After joining the U.S. Army in 2008, Carraway began recording music under the moniker AWOL (“Absent Without Love”), a play on the military term for when a soldier doesn’t report for duty. With her sound weaving between hip-hop, R&B, soul and rock -taking risks to consistently leveling up in every aspect of the word, Jacqueline “AWOL” Carraway can be found working on new music and reminding fans through her pseudonym of the lessons taught in 1 Corinthians 13:1: "Without love, [we] are nothing."
