Second release of the year already from the party music people of Abstrack. This time, it’s Brussels based artist Strapontin whose original production is on the menu, with re interpretation from several gifted companions. The multitude here is no excuse for genericity or easy recipes, rather a fertile playground for toying around with a wide range of vibes and moods.

Matches is a poetic, sensual spoken-word piece. The song feels like a flower about to blossom, though with plenty of hybrid DNA in it. In the end it leaves the way wide open for further emotions to get through. And they do.

Sasnal Park is the emotion of wander : looking for something forever, but for what? The drums make you believe that you found it but they turn out to be a mirage, and so does every tangible element of the track. A beautiful journey in the end even if you don’t know where you’ve been.

Family Diner … no ambiguity this time : a mystical roller as dark as it is trippy. Or maybe more trippy. Either way, not sure you can resist dancing to this one played out loud. Lose yourself to screaming halfway through, but only to fall back well rooted in those dancing feet afterwards.

On the flip, remixers put it where they’re expected to : A Strange Wedding takes the wandering “Sasnal Park” on the Edge of trancy club music, closer to the roots of Abstrack parties.

Feon turns the belter “Family Diner” into a road roller : sirens and massive subs engage into a memorable fist fight.

And home man Vidock choses the very dreamlike “Matches”, adding quite a touch of dancefloor but not removing one inch of dream.

A digital bonus of great value is delivered by the hands of anatolian weapon, remixing Sasnal Park. This time, no messing around : it's full on club mood, the acid line and the the powerful beats turning the wander and the dream into a strangely haunting dancefloor weapon.


Strapontin

Besides being a dancer, performer and visual artist, French-born, Brussels-based Patrick Belmont aka Strapontin is a DJ and producer who mixes up slow and rough techno with thrilling soundtracks and groove driven disco.

While the world was (still) burning in 2020 Strapontin released two banging records on Hard Fist and Invisible Inc. uplifted by stellar remixes from Sascha Funke, Damon Jee and Thomass Jackson. He also created his own home-made video game with the movie director and partner Yvan Megal with whom he realised most of his music video. Early 2021 marked his explosive return on Optimo with a collaborative EP with Philadelphia's psychedelic duo Zillas On Acid.

Patrick Belmont is also a soundtrack composer and performer in the contemporary dance collective Poetic Punkers, and works with choreographers Lorenzo De Angelis, Baptiste Conte and Ikue Nakagawa.
He also unveiled his first art exhibition in ZSenne Artlab (Brussels) in 2020.

The world moves so fast we can't help but forget. Once the media coverage looks the other way, any tragedy ends up dissipating within the foggy memories of all the other tragedies that paraded our screens.

Violence, hunger and misery is still a very real thing in Ukraine at the moment. In an attempt to give visibility to the issues children are undergoing due to the conflict and to raise funds to tackle them, Global Warming's Malcolm partnered with Yssue to compile a 22 track album producers, designers and studios from the modern Russian electronic, post punk and experimental scenes. 

They partnered with War Child, an initiative that works intensively in Ukraine and at the borders with Moldova and Romania. All the funds raised will be invested in:

- Supporting refugees in accommodation centers
- Providing life-saving emergency support and vital protection to vulnerable refugee children.
- Working with anti-trafficking organizations to prevent refugees from falling into the hands of traffickers.
- Contribute to cash assistance to meet the basic needs of families fleeing the conflict
- Ensure safeguarding of highly vulnerable children such as those with disabilities.
- and much more.

Italian The Villains Inc. moves up a gear with its fourth release to date and already the second in less than a year! Conscious “Time To Go Back EP” introduces the exclusive collaboration between label owner Gab.Gato (Dominance Electricity, Drivecom, SolarOne) and his partner in crime Jack Bags (La Sabbia) from Milan. Together, they drop an untouchable dancefloor oriented five tracker based upon a terrific concept. Coming from the year 2106 with a preventive message to save Earth from manhandled destruction, scientist Dr Boomer understands how much it’s too late to prevent the planet from Armageddon.
A side opens with insane “Man Of The Future”. a pure analogical time machine merging whispers a la Egyptian Lover to heading vocoder sequences over a sharp 808 programming. Luminous and hypnotizing at the same, this oldschool anthem is instantly followed by enthusiastic “No Permission”. A groovy bassline melt with acidic loops turns the song into a masterpiece enhanced by funny vocal scanding “You Have No Permission To Get Into My Head”. Top notch! With its fierce rhythm and relentless beats, title track “Time To Go Back” coming next signs an ode to the glorious days of West Coast electro sound. Vintage sororities fuse into cutting-edge drums while a funky atmosphere will propel you through time and space. Ace!
The flipside goes deeper into the realm serving up what appears as the climax of the EP. Combining gloomy strings to progressive swirls and ethereal chords, well named “Darkness” delivers a scary yet prophetic message from the future that will spread guilty feelings to any listener: “There Will Be No Light, No Hope…”. You have been warned! Last cut “The Bad Place” concludes the 12” on a soulful note regarding the state of our world controlled by government and technology.
Completed by a fantastic comic style artwork, awaken and despair “Time To Go Back EP” offers an outstanding retrofuturist release from which no one will come out unscathed. One of the best outings in The Villains Inc. so far, rush on it!
