B2 Zoo Look- The Duchess (Blacktee Remix)

Based in the South of England - Abstract Culture is a boutique outfit aiming to showcase choice cuts of House, Disco and Techno. With their inaugural release from Zoo Look gaining support from the likes of Eats Everything, Huxley, Jimpster, Italojohnson and youANDme - the second installment comes courtesy of London duo Chamboche and Sam Halsall (Elevator) under the moniker Ampers&.

Chamboche follows up a collaboration with Ejeca and releases on Under the Shade, Delayed Audio and Black Key and together, Ampers& forge a multifaceted blend of glistening synths and engrossing low-end grooves backed up with remixes by Innershades and Jack Dixon.

‘Gallium’ unfurls behind a glacial pad and textural flecks ahead of a shift into a loose-limbed 4/4 shuffle. Synths dart out alongside sporadic piano stabs as tension gently warms up to the close. Innershades bolsters the original, armouring it with stout percussion and sharpened synths suiting it to brimful dancefloors.

‘Miramar’ renders a sunrise as a crystalline sequence bubbles above a heartbeat leaving Jack Dixon to step in and send it wayward. Following releases on Hotflush, Losing Suki, Tender Hooks and Man Make Music, Jack entangles mangled drum breaks, hallucinogenic vocals and a growling bass-line into a staggered Garage swing strengthening Abstract Culture as a compelling new project capable of covering many bases effectively.

Bournemouth based Abstract Culture continue to add facets to their blooming imprint as it gradually gathers steam behind releases from Zoo Look and Ampers&. With support across these two releases from Maya Jane Coles, Huxley, Eats Everything, Jimpster, Dusky and Detroit Swindle, the next release comes courtesy of Brazil based Sara Garcia a.k.a Whim-ee.

Following up releases on labels such as Night Drive Music, Chilli Mint Music, Nite Grooves and TaoDan Records, Whim-ee carries influences primarily from Chicago and Detroit into her forward-reaching productions that are consistently suffused with a tough and gritty sense of soul.

‘Streets Of Recife’ is a course combination of concrete kicks, husky synths and mangled vocal snippets that are backed up with a remix from the lauded Frenchman - Anaxander.  

The title track kicks things off with darting strobes and a swirling synth pattern sat above a rattling underbelly before Anaxander, who follows up releases on Dame-Music, Quintessentials and Local Talk offers up a warming take on the original rich with glowing piano lines and softly saturated bass tones.

‘Sub’ then drives it’s whetted and cold percussion over a softly rotating drone before ‘Before Considering’ rolls out an elephantine groove behind forceful, plodding synths and a thickened kick and clap combo that bring another Abstract Culture coup to a close.
