Belgium’s Hermanez has long since been an impressive force with prolific output everywhere from Suara to Trapez LTD to Leena and Monique Musique. His deep, mystical version builds through hip-shaking percussion and swathes of dubby pads moving across the stereo field. Delays are used to great effect for both percussion and synths, creating a feel that’s reminiscent of late ‘90s progressive house but with a deeper and more groovy touch.

Smythson - Rewired (Hermanez Remix)

Alexkid injects it with ominous bass growls and garage snare inflexions on his remix, throwing in a few more kicks for extra measure to create a breakbeaty rhythm. Coming across like Burial meets ar:pi:ar, it’s an absolute beast of a rework.

Rocambolesco - Signals (Alexkid Remix)

Signals takes you on a trip across nine minutes of deep exploration. The intricate percussive groove is a patchwork of slight drum sounds and slivers of FX, with seriously low tuned bass warming the underbelly of the track. Dusty, filtered synth stabs nip away at the track as far-off piano notes delay in the background.

The Dub Math takes things down a notch with hazy sounds and plodding sub bass combining with heavily reverbed vocal incantations which all combine to bring together the vibe referenced in the title.

Light Tunnel continues the theme, coming across like the dying throes of space station spinning out of control due to excessive amounts of sub bass. It’s a dizzying, disorientating ride.

Acid Aaron C (Edit) wastes no time getting down to business with its gurgling, incessant 303 line present from the get-go. Shuffling percussion rubs up against heady female vocal lines and wonky detuned 8-bit synth blips, the undercurrent of the track swelling and calming seemingly at will.

Distortion Theory III is a whirring hypnotic machine jam that melds shimmering synth snippets to mind-bending FX undulations and throbbing low end. Disorientating and wonky as hell, it’s the sound of a funky computer malfunction somewhere in deep space.

Holland’s Conforce rounds things off with plump low end throbs and sparse synth pulses reminiscent of Basic Channel, with gently shuffling hi-hats underpinning the murky yet warm textures and broad, heavily reverbed swathes of chord drama.

Partisan sees a morphing, resonant synth motif pulse over another pleasingly thick kick rhythm, and swirling, ethereal layers of atmosphere. All in all it’s a superb release that has something for the dancefloor as well as the home stereo.

Lost In Sequence’s thumping kicks are punctuated by the rolling tribal percussive elements and looming, sorrowful pads. Intricate rhythms and beautiful use of reverb and other FX create a dreamy atmosphere throughout.

Incidence continues the theme, with gentle cymbal rides splashing over continually evolving acid blips and bleeps while mystical waves of chord melody envelope your senses in a foggy haze.

The pitter-patter of classic drum machine hi-hats drive the title track along with swooping, filtered pads and gentle licks of acid, the track gradually evolving into a veritable bubble bath of 303 goodness and gated synth swells.
