Alejandro Marenco, the shortened moniker of Nicaraguan-born, Chicago-based musician Noel Alejandro Gutierrez Marenco, makes expansive electronic grooves designed for “throwing ass.” Marenco’s music is evocative of that night, the one that feels simultaneously driftless and gigantic, one that glimmers upon remembering hours spent in a sweat-drenched, dimly-lit club, or the last dance at a dive bar down the street, or a blaring stereo during a wide-eyed 3am cross-city drive to get home. Largely creating in Ableton (and occasionally bolstered by a drum machine and Moog synth), Marenco fluidly weaves a variety of sounds from endless inspirations - Jamaican collective Equiknoxx, the latin tribal techno of Nick León, and the influential dance label Livity Sound, to name a few. Elastic beats, industrial percussion, fluid synth, oscillating rhythms, and a flourish for ever-changing instrumentation, Marenco’s mixes are reverberating moments of kaleidoscopic euphoria.

For September, Alejandro Marenco blesses us with aquatic, textural, dub for Smooth Brain listening. This episode flows through a range of ambient, downtempo, and IDM sounds for a mind-relaxing experience. Alejandro Marenco is a Nicaraguan-born Chicago-based producer, dj, and sound engineer, working sound at the notorious Podlasie. 

His Smooth Brain mix resembles his transcendental  rhythmic sounds in his own production. Whenever listening to his music, I feel as if I’m exploring the depths of an underwater cave. Be sure to check out his music and keep your eyes out for an upcoming EP :)

From the shores of Bermuda to the inner-city musical depths of the UK underground club scene. Unearthed, heavy and dynamic live drum performances delivered by his Caribbean and African roots. 

Bermuda born musician Obeka featured as MixMag’s ‘Artists to Watch in 2025’ delivers a native sound and rhythm distinct to his homeland. The multi-percussionist blends native styles from Pan-African, Caribbean and South American origins that became essential for manifesting polyrhythmic electronic beats and tempos with a mix of live and software based drum performances. Obeka has ventured his sound in a multitude of UK cities and beyond the shores in Bologna, Cuba, Lisbon, Berlin and most recently finishing a debut tour in Miami and Colombia. With a plethora of EPs released on Future Bounce, Love in The Endz, Basy Tropilkalne and Left, Right & Centre. 

Jumping into his second year as an Oroko Radio Resident based in Ghana, Obeka has further ventured into the airwaves of BBC Radio, Rinse FM, Rinse France, NTS Radio, Miami Community Radio and most recently Berlin platform Refuge Worldwide. Obeka has expanded his sound beyond the borders supporting musicians such as Lil Silva, Sampha and Major Lazer.

El productor ha venido llenando presentaciones con su aproximación particular de ambient y noise en loops de cintas, en su última, poniendo a dormitar y contemplar a la mitad de Matik Matik, espacio donde lo conocimos. Para esta edición nos regaló una hora completamente en vivo, en exclusiva para la plataforma, y para el disfrute de todxs. No le quiten la mirada, el trabajo de Emen a penas comienza.

Este set recorre la discografía reciente de Matt, pasando por su ambient más onírico en el que fusiona grabaciones de campo con síntesis digital, hasta sus más recientes exploraciones con la percusión arrítmica, la generación de texturas sucias a través de tape loops y samples “mal cortados”.

La nostalgia y el suspenso guían el camino por esta trocha fantasmal llena de bellos paisajes flotantes que se derriten en la conciencia.
