Irina Rimes - Dudadu (Reverend & Eres Bootleg Remix)

After five years of planning, writing, and refining their sound, London-based production duo Kolectiv are set to release their long-awaited debut drum & bass album, Circadian Rhythms.

The project began in the aftermath of the pandemic, when the pair started setting aside tracks that captured the spirit of a night out at a drum & bass event. Their vision was clear: to create an album that reflects the variety, energy, and progression of a rave – from the first beats that pull you into the closing sounds that carry you home.

“Going out to drum & bass nights, you’d hear so many different flavours across six or seven hours. We wanted the album to follow that same arc – like a circadian rhythm, a natural flow of time, but in this case the cycle of a rave,” Kolectiv explain.

To achieve this, the duo placed a strong emphasis on originality and sound design. Most of the album was built from scratch using their own recorded samples, crafted through sessions with keys, drums, and guitars, and only dipping into external sources when absolutely necessary. Vocal collaborations from PAV4N, Hijak MC, Illmatika and Kerry Donnelly add unique flavour to the project, while carefully placed interludes tie the project together as a complete listening experience.

“This isn’t just a collection of tracks. We wanted it to be a journey – a cradle-to-grave kind of experience – with highs, lows, and moments to breathe.”

The title Circadian Rhythms captures that intention perfectly: an audio diary of a night spent immersed in drum & bass culture, told through Kolectiv’s trademark blend of technical precision and emotional depth.

The project also coincided with a complete studio overhaul, giving Kolectiv a fresh environment to finalize and mix down the record with a renewed sense of clarity and focus.

With Circadian Rhythms, Kolectiv deliver more than an album – they present a story, an atmosphere, and a tribute to the music and culture that shaped them.

Abstrakt Syntax

Around 2015 the duo (consisting of Koen Janssen and Wouter Hollanders) started producing electronic dance music. The love for the bass genres surpasses the all the other genres in EDM. Because of this passion for dubstep and drum & bass, the duo made the decision back in 2017 to continue with these genres under the name Abstrakt Syntax. With the emphasis on the violent bass genres in electronic music, they slowly emerge in the South of the Netherlands. By winning the Beukavond DJ-contest by Code Rood, the duo got the chance to give their first DJ-set completely driven by the bass genres.

Abstrakt stands for the unique music style that they use in conjunction with the syntax. The syntax are the methods used for this unique music style, which is, as it were, programmed by the duo. Last year, "The Drum" was released on Stagma Records and The Necronomicon EP was released on May 21. Recently they also made funky remix of Portugal The Man - Feel It Still, available as a free download on Scrictly Deep DnB.

Rond 2015 is het duo (bestaande uit Koen Janssen en Wouter Hollanders) begonnen met het produceren van elektronische muziek. De liefde voor de bass genres stijgt toch boven de rest uit. Vanwege deze passie voor dubstep en drum & bass heeft het duo in 2017 de beslissing gemaakt om ook alleen met deze genres verder te gaan onder de naam Abstrakt Syntax. Met de nadruk op de heftige bass genres in de elektronische muziek komen ze langzaam op in het Zuiden van Nederland. Door het winnen van de Beukavond dj-contest door Code Rood is kreeg het duo de kans om een eerste optreden te geven volledig gedreven door de bass genres.
 
Abstrakt staat voor de unieke muziekstijl die zij hanteren in samenhang met de syntax. De syntax zijn de methodes, die gebruikt worden voor deze unieke muziekstijl, die als het ware geprogrammeerd wordt door het duo. Vorig jaar is ‘The Drum’ gereleased op Stagma Records en op 21 mei The Necronomicon EP. Recentelijk hebben ze ook nog funky remix gemaakt van Portugal The Man - Feel It Still, beschikbaar als gratis download op Scrictly Deep DnB.
