After a hiatus of three years since her breakout music video “FOTAN LAIKI” with Youngqueenz, local rap sensation Fotan Laiki is back with a brand new single, titled “Bad Habit.” Teaming up with fellow Hong Kong based rapper Takeem, as well as London based Organ Tapes for a down tempo pop-inspired tune, the track is a change of pace since her high energy debut that put Hong Kong back on the radar.

Inspired by the old school triad flicks of Johnnie To, Bad Habit is riff of the classic pimp on-the-run story who’s being pursued by three mystery men. Directed by Fotan Laiki herself, a.k.a. Wong Laiki, and Cheuk Ng, the video mixes high-paced action shots set in the Hong Kong's nocturnal streets; with subtle nods to absurd local humour. "Bad Habit" also features local collective Feaston playing Organ Tapes.

Fotan Laiki, a.k.a. Humble Broke B Gunshot Momma a.k.a. Unlucky Lover, is an artist, vocalist and occasional DJ from Hong Kong.

Takeem is an upcoming popstar based in Hong Kong. Influenced by Hip Hop, R&B and pop, he is ready to challenge the culture and bring more hits to the world.

Organ Tapes is a producer and singer from London and Shanghai whose music has been described as "Alkaline by way of Daniel Johnston".

About the EP:
Despite their polarising musical and geographical insularities, Tokyo based WRACK and Berlin based Max Dahlhaus have joined force to put out their first collaborative EP 'No Hiraeth' on Absurd TRAX, weaving the rather melodic and beat based sound by WRACK into the textured layers of brutalist and scrappy sound designs by Max – in turn transforms into a collection of club tools that underpins their musical geniuses while sonically transcending them to the ends of sound spectrum that neither artists have ventured until this synergistic artistry exchange.  

The EP receives remixes by the Moscow based artist Summer of Haze, who produced a rave approach on 'Serendipity', and Nerve from Hong Kong, who takes the already noisy elements of 'No Hiraeth' and catapults everything onto a different level of distortion.

'Patience' is the first single of the upcoming EP by Annika Zee.

Annika Zee returns to Absurd TRAX with her latest folk-inspired EP work after a year apart from her previous release with the imprint.

After returning to Canada, Annika was moved by the local scene, in particular the artists she worked with on this record, Louie Short and Eliza Niemi. She also took inspiration from artists such as Joni Mitchell and Neil Young who evoke the sound of the natural Canadian landscape. 

In her own words, "Nothing is based in reality on this record, they are all fictional scenarios where the listener can take what they want from it. The theme is essentially a longing to return to spaces that are more personal and intimate."

'Dropbar' is the first single from Kelvin T's forthcoming LP 'Unlock Voice', which will release on 9th November via Absurd TRAX.

Kelvin T’s last recording, the 'Sedative' EP, was about self-discovery and finding his own voice. Having accomplished that, he was compelled to raise a different question altogether: "Is it possible to ‘train’...a synthetic sound to possess a voice and sing on its own?"

In 'Unlock Voice', the first full length album from Kelvin T, he avoids the lyrical mode- instead of treating sound as a means to communicate his own feelings, he wants to fashion a key to ‘unlock’ the expressive potentiality of each sound, each being an entity, a singularity in its own right. The opening track ‘Dropbar’, for instance, sees Kelvin fantasizing about what it would be like for kick drums to punch him successively in the stomach, all while a synthesizer melody coaxes him into submission. In ‘Escaped’, on the other hand, a bleeding synth groans pleadingly at the listener, making for an unsettling experience. The result of Kelvin’s latest experiments in sonic necromancy is a visceral, tactile, kinetic exercise, assaulting the nervous system like rave music from some abyssal cellar.

“Maybe, if there’s a soul locked inside a sound, can I teach the synths and the drums to scream at me and cry through the speakers? If synthesizers and samplers (no matter whether they are hardware or software) can talk, would they scream at their masters or sing while crying?”

"Be Air Be Air" is the first single of the upcoming album "Aerate" by Kelvin T, to be released on Feb 28 2020.

The name "Aerate" implies the intention of the album; to aerate your mind, let loose of being conscious and alerted. In order to truly experience this album, one must give in to the music without much focus, aerating your mind with intoxication and vices.

Absurd TRAX welcomes new solo EP by Lujiachi, one half of Taipei based psychedelic drone metal duo 破地獄 Scattered Purgatory.

Divergent to the band's tranquilizing soundscape, the EP’s acutely drastic rhythmic emphasis easily place itself into a separate sonic plateau, earning itself its entry into the techno space, while the overarching ritualistic and tribal ambiance remains in the equation, they precipitate in contextualizing an nerve-wrecking succession of laser-focused club banging sequences.

In his own words, Lujiachi described "this record can be regarded as the first definite presentation of my forays into electronic music. I used to be in a band, and this experience shaped my approach towards crafting this record. With each track, I would prepare the percussion, following which I would assume the role of the bassist, layering a bassline on top of the rhythm. I was a guitarist in the band that I played in, which meant that I was rather less involved in the duties of the rhythm section. This work, then, can be seen as a rhythmic experiment, a set of songs in which I tinker with aspects of music that are new to me.

(這張算是我個人玩電子音樂的第一張正式作品，我以前是玩樂團的，所以個人計畫在創作時是以一人樂團為概念，可能會先想像我自己是鼓手，會打怎麼樣的鼓，接著在換到貝斯手的身分把貝斯疊上去，總之都會先把節奏的部分完成。因為我以前在樂團中是吉他手，比較少參與到節奏的部分，現在就想要嘗試做一些以前沒試過的東西，就變成這些歌了。)"

ASJ announces LUCID SATORI, the lead-single of the Hong Kong based artist’s forthcoming LP to be released on Hong Kong label Absurd TRAX.

In this single, ASJ puts her introspection off her experience of lucid dreaming, ‘Satori’ is a Japanese Buddhist term for awakening, this track is about the curious encounter she had in an awakening dream.

“As I was in the dream, I was fully awake and enabled to control where I was going, but I was scared at the same time because it was my first time that I was in control of it, I panicked, I wanted to leave. That was what my lyrics are about.”

Every dream that we dreamt taught us more about ourselves, it could let us be more aware of ourselves emotionally or physically.

“We all have the power to create as it could be something we have forgotten, all dreams are personal & sometimes amazingly ridiculous, but they are like a reminder for us to stop, face our fear, take control and to start remembering and understand more of who we are.” ASJ added.
