Medicinne - "Saving/Lucid"

Medicinne - a collaboration between two of Francis Preve's alumni: Arcader (Definitive, Academik) and deep tech DJ, Allen Tagle - delivers a stunning tech house debut with their "Saving/Lucid" EP.

"Saving" begins with bass-laden jacked up beats, then fuses deep house vocal slices with subtle techno flourishes, culminating in a surprisingly ethereal breakdown that never loses the groove. The result is a mesmerizing dancefloor journey that works equally well in both house and techno sets.

"Lucid" stakes out different tech house territory, combining indie guitar elements with Medicinne's driving-yet-funky progressive sensibilities. "Lucid" keeps the crowd guessing with a series of complex, yet utterly musical twists and turns that culminate in a massive atmospheric guitar breakdown, evoking the glory days of Sasha & Digweed without feeling forced or nostalgic.

With a debut like "Saving/Lucid", Medicinne quickly marks their place in the vast world of progressive tech house. Their combination of intelligent sound design and intricate musical details makes them a duo to watch in 2014.

Academik Records defies the easy categorization of "record label". Founded by electronic music polymath Francis Prève in 2011, Academik doesn't simply focus on music - instead turning its attention to the essence of sound itself.

While this may seem a lofty statement - the processes behind our concept of a record label extends far beyond dance music and into the realms of sound design, software and audio technology. Each of the artists on Academik produce and engineer all of the elements in their tracks, as well as DJ their music with an effortless ease that transcends expectations at every gig, bringing audiences closer to the heart of their music and artistic message.

Artists in the Academik family include Gabriel & Dresden, Meredith Call (Winter Kills, Tritonal), Jan van Lier, The Chaotic Good, William A, Arcader, Shreddward (Andain), and of course, Prève himself.

Like these artists, Academik's release methods are equally unique. As members of the EDM community become increasingly involved in remixes and mashups, an imprint that delivers music in component form (stems, loops, acapellas and such) will reach the hearts of fans in ways that were previously impossible before the widespread use of products like Ableton Live - the legendary software DAW for which Francis Prève personally designed countless sounds (and more than a few production features, as well).

Academik singles often include the individual parts that went into its creation, allowing fans and producers around the world to remix and remake these tracks into their own individual artworks.

Academik is the imprint of the now. Starting in 2012, Academik will be branching into soundware, software and ultimately, hardware. 

But today, the message is music.

And lots of it.
