Melbourne-based youth minister James Edwards has won the national songwriting competition with his official theme song for the inaugural Australian Catholic Youth Festival (ACYF).

The song is called “Your Spirit” and focuses on the theme of the ACYF which is “The Spirit of the Lord is Upon Me” from Luke’s Gospel.

“It’s still sinking in that my song was chosen! especially knowing that lots of other people entered their music”, he said.

Pure of Heart by Melbourne singer song-writer Genevieve Bryant has been chosen as the theme song for the Australian Catholic Youth Festival (ACYF)2015. 
Taking the theme of the Festival, ‘Blessed are the pure of heart for they shall see God’, Genevieve Bryant asked herself, ‘where can we see God?’
The question prompted a deep musical response in singer-song writer Genevieve. ‘When our eyes are truly opened we see God as the poor and thirsty, the heart of justice, the lost and searching.’
‘When we proclaim this belief, God gives us the grace to be pure of heart,’ which reflects the title of the song, pure of heart.

ACBC Youth Ministry undertakes projects approved by the Bishops Commission for Pastoral Life that promote and support:

• the solid faith formation of young people and their full participation in the life of the Church;
• the personal and professional development of youth ministers, and the operational effectiveness of youth ministry, in Australia;
• the networking across all sectors of the Church engaged in youth ministry, including dioceses and parishes, schools and universities, religious institutions, groups and movements; and
• the organisation of annual national and local events for young people and youth ministers.

The Bishops Commission for Pastoral Life has been mandated by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference with responsibility for national issues related to marriage and marriage preparation, pro-life issues, natural family planning and pregnancy support, specialist chaplaincies (e.g. for seafarers) and the pastoral care of young people, aged persons, people living with a disability, migrants and refugees, and groups that are seen as marginalised in Church life.
