The World Eater

From Hieronymus Bosch's "The Dream Songs" on Fluttering Dragon.  I created this track for friend Mark Wallbank of Hieronymus Bosch, with the theme of the album being children fighting in wars. Therefore I gave it a definite military sound (how I love those marches).  I thought the added Kum Bay Ya with the piano near the end tied in nicely with the thought of children. Bosch then layered over the top with vocal effects.

Marching with Demons

The Opus from the Acclimate album of the same name.  Released on Japan's Xerxes Records.  My initial outing with Acclimate as a solo act.  Some distorted rhythm present, but (to me) along the lines of the live performance with PBK in May of 1998.

Potato Cock

After Invisible Records released 2 Acclimate tracks on "Notes from thee Real Underground Vol 2", I was soon contacted again by Invisible to do an Alice Cooper cover.  This was a joint release with Ankhor Records.  As Invisible was releasing material by abstract noteables like Dead Voices On Air, Not Breathing and Spasm (to name a few), I was initially quite excited.  "Notes" featured one soundscape track of mine, and one soundscape/rhythmic track, so I thought anything goes.  However, I was told this track had to be a straight up "by the numbers" Industrial Dance track, or I wouldn't be included.  

As I initially ventured into electronic music to make this type of material, I decided to make at least one composition of this genre to show that I could.  I used similar string sounds to "Proselytized", and the vocal samples that have come to be synonymous with Acclimate are ever present.  I whispered the vocals and put them through a bass distortion pedal, to good measure I thought.  The bit of feedback from the mic was unexpected whilst recording, but I thought it complimented the piece nicely and decided to leave it. 

I think the overall synth sounds are still very "Acclimate", and to keep true to the project I decided to make my remix nothing at all like the original.  There's not a shred of Alice's version present here.  So is it a "proper" remix?  Probably not.  But Acclimate was always meant to be a big "fuck  you" to the corporate music, so I think the track served its purpose.

Is it my body

Mark from Club Bizarre kindly asked me to contribute to this Various Artist release.  As I was still living in the States at this time, I'm the only non-New Zealander to appear!  A nice soundscape track, and sounds much like other things I was doing at that period in time.  A basis for the soundscape journeys that Acclimate would come to be known for.

Dreams out of Focus

re:pro and I had both submitted works to Ad Noiseam for possible release.  AN said that they liked what each of us were doing, but only had enough room for one of us on an upcoming compilation in support of the coming North American Tarmvred tour.  I vaguely knew Norm (re:pro), and as he was from Detroit he quickly contacted me in regards to the "Subsnow 02 02" compilation and asked if I'd be interested in doing a collaborative effort.  He supplied me with a slow sludgy soundbed and I ran away with it!  This track was originally considered too long for the release, but another contributing artist had submitted a shorter than expected track so we made the cut!  This earned us a spot opening for Tarmvred in Windsor, Ontario (which was a real right bitch crossing the border with all of our gear due to the recent September 11th incident).  Reminds me of something I would have done with PBK.
