Very much a part of the current Latin-American born and influenced wave of DJs and producers breaking through and dominating the underground airwaves – from Nick Leon to INVT and Bitter Babe to Siu Mata – Porto-via-Belo Horizonte DJ and Yellow Island Records (releases from Kessler, Boulderhead) label head ALBIN (@albindj) is highlighting Brazilian community through his blend of Baile Funk, Miami-Bass, forward-thinking Techno and underground UK Dubstep, Breaks & Jungle; channeling the spirits of both South America and the UK and finding a sweet spot between the bounce, bass and energy of each continent's aesthetics.

Previously supported by Ransom Note, NYC collective HAUS of ALTR, Craigie Knowes, Rinse FM, Mixmag and Groove Magazin, ALBIN held down a residency at Balamii Radio under his Yellow Island Records label between 2020 and 2022, inviting more than sixty guests from around the globe to connect with the deep-yet-dutty Yellow Island aesthetic, sharing the decks with Amelia Holt, Zopelar, John Beltran, Andrea (Ilian Tape), Glenn Astro, label-resident Etari and more, in addition to a residency at Internet Public Radio where he invited Soela, Paul P (Of Paradise), BADSISTA and more for guest slots.

Floating somewhere between a hybrid Latin-sound, Ilian Tape-techno and deep UK club, ALBIN is a DJ ready to tell his story through the sounds of his home and outer-space, turning in recent mixes for NTS Radio, Rinse FM, Index Records and has recently played in Dimensions Festival in Tisno, Razzmatazz in Barcelona, La Rotonde Stalingrad in Paris, among others.

As they disembark their spacecraft and begin their descent underground through a series of tunnels, they can feel bass rumbling from the planet’s core. Soon they are joined by groups of other sexy ant dancers from neighbor planets and the trail of ants grows thick as they march deeper toward the intensifying sound. The tunnel opens into a vast cavern where a throng of ant dancers is crowded around a giant glowing red orb, writhing their leggy bodies in worship of the Great Ant Beat.”

@lordtusk's come through with a seriously smoked-out, engrossing contribution to the mix series. 

"The Nuances of El Tusk"

If you don’t already know, the Dean Blunt, Klein and Yasiin Bey (AKA Mos Def) collaborator always seems to be at the forefront of the most vital DIY scenes. A genre-agnostic producer and sound curator typically found holding it down at Venue MOT, The Glove That Fits and Ormside Projects (where he runs his quarterly club night, ÜNDERGØDS).

Weirdo tendencies in full effect, a multidisciplinary 'one-man-band' approach is adopted across most endeavours: running the UltraWaveVisions label to producing original music, soundtracking fashion shows, art house film installations and clothing design, this guy does it all. 

Safe to say he has an ear for the explorative, and making offerings of “rare, eclectic, unreleased, experimental and weird thought-provoking music”, this mix is a case in point.

Oranj Wine #36 Lord Tusk

After a longer mixtape break, we plan to ramp up the output this year starting off with London based @OnyaDev. Host of the Strange Pleasures show on Lisbon based @quanticaonline, after a decade in Portugal and Berlin moving around DIY scenes, this past year she found herself playing alongside artists like Lukid, Tapes, Lil Mofo and more in Japan, Berlin and London.

We love Onya’s open heart for all genres which results in a varied and liberated approach to her sets which explore the “odder end of dance music, experimental electronic, and sounds of strange pleasure.“
