A CHALLENGE OF HONOUR - ARE YOU CERTAIN OF YOUR DESTINY

It has been 10 years since Johan Koenig contacted Peter Savelkoul for the release of his debut-demo tape ‘ The Right Place’, the tape was released in a VHS boxset and limited to 30 copies by Peter’s small label Stahlklang Audio. Philippe was one of the people who bought the tape and passed it to Fabrice of Divine Comedy Records from Marseille. Divine Comedy offered Johan a record deal and he excepted, the recording of ‘Only Stones Remain’ started in February 2001. After a few weeks Johan asked Peter, who had more experience with electronic music to help him with the music and join the project, A Challenge of Honour became a 2 piece band. Two months into the recording the personal problems of Johan became bigger and he decided to quit the project, in the meantime they also had recorded a 10″ EP entitled ‘Wilhelm Gustloff’ after seeing an old war movie called ‘Nacht Fiel uber Gothenhafen’. Peter decided to continue the recordings of ‘Only Stones Remain’ himself and also to release ‘Wilhelm Gustloff’ as a CDr on his own label. ‘Only Stones Remain’ was released and became a big international success with alot of very possitive reviews.

The first livegig of A Challenge of Honour was in Leuven (be) as support act of Ataraxia and was later released as a Live CD entitled ‘Where No Angels dare to Come’. Years of releases and gigs in Austria, Belgium, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Russia, Finland, the Ukraine and the Netherlands followed.
