This is the first in a series recreating mixtapes from the late 90s/early 2000s.  Trying to stay as true to the originals as possible.  The goal is just to improve sound quality and preserve these mixes in a format other than a recording of a cassette :)

I'm from NJ so the rest of this series will be NY/NJ DJs but this tape came to me through my now-wife, by way of San Francisco.  Mars and Mystre were huge in the Bay Area.  This was the first mix I heard of theirs and after listening to the other mixes they released, consider it the best.  Uplifting, dark, happy & sad all packed into an hour and a half mix.  To me this defines the "cybertrance" movement of that time.

I don't know how many times I was stuck in the Lincoln Tunnel (in or out) listening to this mix but it was always a hit amongst my passengers.

The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.
