Elliott Smith is one of my songwriting idols, simple as that. Sometimes I really feel like the emotional songwriting part of music gets a bit lost within the dance music world, which was a big reason I picked this amazing song to cover. I just wanted to try and do my best to honor such a great musician and one of my favorite songs.

I'm giving this song away for free (you can download it by clicking the above link) because I have an EP coming out on November 9th that I'd love for everyone to check out when it comes out. Its called the Embrace EP and its 6 songs, including my brand new single "Embrace". He brings this perfect blend of pop/mainstream sensibility and indie but strikes a great balance with his really unique voice and styling which is something we care a lot about... When we started producing the song we gravitated towards the more progressive sound, flush with big synths but wanted to pair it with a sweeping horn over the drop to give it this really grand almost orchestra feeling that gave it a unique feeling, almost cinematic in nature.... which allowed us to cater to the high energy of house but maintain a unique undertone which we put a lot of importance on with our productions ”

I wanted this to be the first track from Drive I shared with you all not because it's the biggest or the best, but because it's probably my personal favourite.

The album was basically inspired by a road trip I took with my wife from New York to Los Angeles last year, taking in Route 66 and numerous ghost towns, deserts, mountain passes, dirt roads etc, and I came up with the melody for this one towards the end, somewhere in the Mojave Wilderness as we finally made it into California, the setting sun of the West in the distance. A long way from home, and still fairly far from our final destination, but the end was in sight. And that's the moment the track basically came to describe. It isn't really a club banger, or a club track. It's just something I felt like writing.

Anyway - enough deep shit. Still feels slightly surreal to be sharing this body of work after waiting so long. More soon.
