This Live version of "He Said Hello" was made at the Tucson Folk Festival in May of 2009 and features Mark Holdaway on the kalimba. Vimala wrote the words to this song in 1994 soon after her oldest brother died of AIDS. The music did not come until 2007 when she bought an acoustic guitar and began to relearn how to play it. She hit an ambient chord and the song came to life. "He Said Hello" is dedicated to the memory of the mulitude left behind. It is a song of love, loss and rebirth.

Vimala and the Ocotillo Geo Treo performed "Shadow, Shadow" at the Tucson Folk Festival in May of 2009. The song was inspired by Carl Jung's archetype of the shadow. The song begs the listener to peer into the deep neglected aspects of the self without judgement, to make peace with our dark side, and to dance ourselves free.

Acoustic Vimala and the Ocotillo Geo Treo performed this original tune at the Tucson Folk Festival in May of 2009. The story of this song's creation is a bit unusual. The challenge to write a song about the idea of Returning was put forth by a channelled entity named Tobias of the Crimson Council.  Vimala did not plan to write the song but early on a fall morning in Tucson, AZ, the catchy chorus line started to come in and the writing process was underway. After five hours of getting up, tape recording tunes, lying back down, jumping up again, writing and re-arranging words, the song was finished. So is the songwriter the songwriter, or did she herself channel the tune from another dimension? ... these are all mysteries!

The Returning Song

I tell people this is the story of my life. It can be done! It is based on the story of the ugly duckling. Sometimes a person feels like they were dropped into the wrong time, country, place, but then a day comes when your People fly overhead and you know that you DO belong! This song was written all in one piece. I was fiddling around with chords and the whole song came out. Luckily I had the recorder on. I had to replay it several times in order to relearn the song that had come out. After all, I had never heard it before! I hope you enjoy! --Vimala

The Swan

Sometimes life gets so dicey you feel like you are walking on water. Here's a tune for the times when faith gives out and sinking to the bottom of the ocean feels inevitable. Enjoy!

Walking On Water [Live]

Inspired by the death of her mother in July 2011, Vimala has written a song that expresses the love, loss and hope that springs from such an impacting life event. This is a song anyone who has experienced loss and is feeling its full force.

Tears

This song was originally written as A Song to Myself. I had just come off of a challenging relationship where I had kept myself entangled for too long.  The first lyric that came was ‘I won’t treat you like that, I won’t treat you like you’re someone without a heart’. The chords came at the same time. I was singing to myself. I was realizing that I had the choice and the power to treat myself well. The song developed in a more commercial way. A song someone might sing to a partner who had been hurt it past relationships. It has become a song of assurance and intention to treat someone well. I hope you enjoy! -Vimala

I Won't

ARCHIVE: Long time ago when I was FAB! This is the first solo recording I ever did. It was fall/winter of 1997-98 and my friend Chuck Moses was recording some songs he had written. We were at Ted Rekich’s studio in Highfield area of Butler, PA. I had been out of the music loop for years and wasn’t sure about myself. But when I played this back in the CD player of my car, I cried… I knew that there was something there that I could share. It took awhile, but eventually I relearned the guitar and started to write my own songs and perform. My friend Karen chuckled when she heard this because there was such a carry-over in my style from my church choir days! Oh well! It was a new beginning! I hope you enjoy!

Until Forever [Chuck Moses]

I wrote this song in February of 2015 and promised to share it with my fans...but I never did. So this is quite late in coming but the sentiment is still there! Based on a true story, this is a break-up song with a twist. While the heartbreak and confusion can leave one buried in the mud, there is always the option to gather oneself back up and stand tall. The title comes from two angles to the same story… Neil Young wrote a song entitled ‘Dance, Dance, Dance’ that carries this lyric, and Mississippi Brew Company in Utica, NY, makes a black and tan beer with this label… Both crossed my path in a big way when this song was being born. Finally it’s out there… and I hope you enjoy!
