Edinburgh’s C Mantle is not specific to a singular sound. But there is a style to his sound. It’s not tied to beats per minute, nor beat structure. It doesn't matter whether it’s intense speedcore; mutant hip hop manifestations; thunderous hardcore techno; or abstract electro/idm, as is the case with Anatomically Correct. There is a particular way Mantle programmes his sound. A signature sound, if you will. Sharp, angular, raw, high grade sonic precision. And not without a certain machine funk swagger to the whole thing.

Across 4 sides of 180gram vinyl Acre Recordings present some of C Mantle’s most accomplished work to date. A culmination of the very best things about Mantle’s music.

On this record he has managed to make a contradicting rough-in-feel, smooth-to-listen-to collection of work centred around interpreting entropy. Shards of sonics crunch and swell as they flow over, through and at you. Step beats, booms, icy crystals and mischievous machines flex all the while.

With wonderfully vivid playful artwork commissioned from Lukas Weidinger, mastering by Denis Blackham, Anatomically Correct is simply, a very good pure electronic record.

"Belorussia's Laconic Impression appears on Acre for the first time with long-player 'Epidemy'. Laconic Impression - aka Andrew Clam - has been producing since the 90s, moving from noise towards hip hop and beats. Citing influences such as Scorn, Techno Animal, Somatic Responses and Warp luminaries, Clam works under a number of aliases with releases on numerous labels, including Canada's Monkey Dub and Russia's Deep-X. With Epidemy Clam presents us with eleven hefty slabs of lo-fi, industrial beat mangling. Warmly distorting breaks abound, encompassed by quirk and glitch. Track by track Clam sets up head-nodding grooves yet inventively pulls the carpet out, constantly wrong-footing us. With refreshing brevity Epidemy marries grit, dirt and intermittent darkness, offset by beguiling appeal, snatches of hook-like melody and a gentle sense of humour."

Dolphin X, aka Italy's Paolo Ippolito, presents his second album for Acre Recordings, 'The Best Of'. Musician and film maker Ippolito is a prolific artist with more aliases than Acre has had releases and works across multiple genre, including but not limited to free jazz, glitch hop, death/black metal, noise, psychedelia and, of course, IDM. The Best Of is a cross section of his recent electronica - all produced on hardware - and an insight into a complex and diverse creativity. Guilelessly moving from the beautiful IDM of Galaxy Sonatine to the ae-esque repetitive gaming experimentalism of Akira, via the glitched out bliss of Smelling A Flower (a remix of the track from his previous Acre release) to more the dancefloor friendly techno and electro stompers of Omega and Sodomised Paul... While referencing various styles, artists and genre, taking their influences and mangling them delightfully, Dolphin X manages to sound like no one else. A rare thing.

Acre welcomes Lille's Méconium - aka Gaël Douek - to the fold, with The Synaptic Vesicle Routine, a startling three-track EP fusing the worlds of speedcore, glitched sound design and IDM. Douek has been releasing diverse music since 2013, utilising a varied array of software and hardware with a different set up for each release. On The Synaptic Vesicle Routine he sources material from modular synths and field recordings, processing sounds via granular synthesis and complex effects. The result is a beguiling melding of speedcore, gllitch, IDM, flashcore, hardcore and breakcore.

After a decade's silence (!?) Raw Village Hall is back with a second EP of hardware-based breakcore and rave-infused machinations. Following on from 2014's Nothing But Mediocrity at the Shows (Acre Recordings), Edinburgh's Gregg Davies drops follow-up Not Even Close. Davies produces as Raw Village Hall, Savier and (with Ingen) as Savagen and, whether the focus is amens and breakcore or mid-tempo industrial, Davies has a distinct raw, hard edged sound with a strong dancefloor focus. Not Even Close pummels with classic amens, hoovers, heavy reeses and industrial kicks and these, coupled with tight production and arrangements, mean this EP will be become a go-to choice for DJs.

The talented and prolific Jan Robbe - aka Erratic - is back on Acre, this time under his Atomhead guise. Altogether much harder than Downward Echoes, Logic Gate’s five tracks see Robbe combining elements of flashcore and speedcore with his distinctly recognisable glitch sound. Despite the frenetic rhythms and eye-watering bpm Atomhead creates rich ambiences and a sense of space which at once both cathartically bludgeon and cleanse, bringing to mind Save, R-ictus and classic La Peste. These are tracks to lose yourself in: powerful, fearsome and intricate with closing number, Methods of Deconstruction, a relentless trip to the core of a vortex.

We're Not Reasonable People

Born of lengthy mixing sessions using a collection of diverse hardware, including classic analogue synths, drum machines and samplers, Arfan Munir-Rai (aka Kashgar) creates a beguiling and quirky 18 track début album that is warm, rich and - while experimental - deeply listenable. Citing varied influences - from Gescom, Bigg Juss, and Charles Dodge to central Asian ballads - Kashgar’s sound is nevertheless all of his own and moves seamlessly from near-skits to rhythmic experiments and evocative ambiences. We are proud to welcome him to Acre. While this is Munir-Rai’s first release as Kashgar he has several others under his Vizier of Damascus moniker on Icasea, Tree Symmetry and Rednetic Recordings.

Belgium’s Jan Robbe, flashcore machine, turns in an EP of insane flash/cyber/glitchcore madness for Acre Recordings. We’ve six tracks here from his archives, produced under both his Atomhead and Undacova aliases, all but two of which are previously unreleased. While Robbe’s overarching focus is on complex rhythms and sci-fi-infused sound design, the absolute attention to detail, the daunting micro-edits and sheer rate of change make this release – while unrelenting and brutal – totally compelling and a real joy to listen to.  Moving from the ‘lighter-hearted’ opener, Mad Professor, and the psy-trance vibed Missions, Robbe takes us into darker, more fearsome, territory with Timeblind and Störung before closing with the frankly nuts Torsion. Throughout this EP his passion is clear. This is a man on a mission.

IS.VI [Free Compilation]

Four Edinburgh producers: five slabs of techno and technoid beats. After his '1996' e.p., released last year on Obscuur Records, C Mantle continues his homage to 90s techno with '1997' & '1998', focusing this time on a more Detroit sound. Ingen - well known for his hard-edged industrial techno - turns in a hefty yet faithful off-beat remix. Savier (a.k.a. Acre's Raw Village Hall) contributes the most industrial sounding of the tracks, a harsh and abrasive broken beat slab of concrete. And finally electro supremo the Wee Djs takes us slow, fat and dubby with a deep, lethargic techno rework of 1997.

Ist nie nie is the deeply impressive debut album from the pan-European collaboration that is Trzåsk. Based in Scotland, Poland and Estonia, the trio have created an album that challenged their musicianship and pushed their boundaries, resulting in a tense yet masterful offering suffused with disquiet, disharmony and angst. Ist nie nie is dense, full of textured, bludgeoning noise, opaque vocals and horror, offset by occasional glimmers of lightness, of melody. This is very much for fans of TG, Coil, Einstürzende Neubauten, Swans or Siekiera. 

They write: 

"Trzåsk came out of heads of three individuals who decided to make sounds venturing into unfamiliar musical territories. All of the music derived from improvised sessions. To ensure a unique feel we avoided playing instruments with which we were comfortable; rather, we used novel instruments which we swapped between tracks. In addition the lyrics were written in Polish but in order to amplify the strangeness of the tracks a non-native speaker sang them."

After a sizeable break of seven years we are pleased to welcome back Hungary's Molez (Róbert Molnár Megyeri) with his third album. Megyeri has releases on Acroplane, Abstrakt Reflections and Digital Disortions (not to mention Acre) and has been developing both his sound and his process over the years. Jelenlét is composed of sounds derived from images which in turn trigger each other so, as he says, 'the music plays itself', and roughly follows the form of asymmetrical hip-hop. Sonically, the release is definitely down-tempo, deep, smokey & warm, with beguiling melodic content. It spans instrumental hip-hop, 'beats' and even some slow techno. Reminiscent, inparts perhaps, of early Krush et al - yet offering more - this is perfect late night listening.

What do you do when you get stuck, when you hit a creative wall? When this happened to Concrete/Field back in 2015 (aka Noise in Opposition's Mark Chickenfish) he zipped his sounds and offered them to anyone who wanted them. While various people used this armory in their own releases Savier (Gregg Davies / Raw Village Hall) created the four tracks here before returning them to Chickenfish, asking him to remix them. Chickenfish then reworked them into four new Concrete/Field tracks. "Peruvian Paul's 16-Steps" is the fruit of this lengthy collaboration and a wonderful and beautifully complementary split album. Two artists with two different sounds but which synergistically marry the broken industrialisms of one with the drone-tinged rhythmic noise of the other. Excellent stuff.

Acre regular Opine Ko$insky is back with a superb new EP of, you guessed it, crunchy, dirty hip hop beats with a focus on more DIY lo-fi sound sources teased from various bits of cheap kit. Title track and opener M.E. starts us off beautifully with some sumptuous and almost melodic underwater hip-hop, the treacle-like beats summing up his living with M.E. 'Not So Clever Now, Are You?' is a more uptempo hardware workout, leading us into the aptly titled and frankly barking ditty, 'Barking'. Ko$insky then takes us into faster, more danceable territory with the unashamedly accessible beat-box suffused XXX, before returning to a more sedate tempo, finishing us off with the grinding power and beat mashup of 'Funky'. This is a super release for fans of distinctly non-standard instrumental hip-hop.

We're delighted to announce the first release from Helicopterface in five years. Helicopterface releases are extremely few and far between (the last being on Acre in 2015) but with plays and support from DJs like Surgeon, Saxenhammer and Element Abuse Helicopterface is underground gold.

Following five years of work, Modern Milk is his first full length album and represents a blistering array of industrial broken beats, fractured techno, hardcore and speedcore; 'modern', yet filtered through the lens of classic 90s industrial, hardcore and breakcore distortions, vibes and sounds.
