The anonymous up-and-coming Weiss returns for the release of the highly anticipated ‘Weiss City Vol 2’. Bursting onto the scene earlier this year, the illusive Weiss has already captured the imagination of producers, press and the public alike with his inspiring take on old school house. The first in this series of EPs, ‘Weiss City Vol 1’, garnered support from the likes of Shadow Child, Ninetoes, Pleasurekraft, Noir, Bontan, Groove Armada, and more with ‘My Sister’ gaining airplay on B-Traits’ Radio 1 show and successfully taking over the Beatport deep house chart at No.3. Now Weiss returns to take the ‘Weiss City’ series a step further.

‘Weiss City Vol 2’ establishes Weiss’ take on house, as he presents three stand out tracks with his trademark punchy old school drums, deep rumbling bass and clever vocal hooks. Leading the charge ‘If I Ever Dance’ is destined to follow on from ‘My Sister’, taking over the more underground dance floors, propelled by an unforgettable groove and soulful vocals. With a simple and sweet melody alongside an unforgettable vocal, ‘Devil In The Sky’ is one for classic house enthusiasts wrapped in the classic M1 organ. 
Finally, ‘Ghetto Boy’ takes us deeper and darker for an after party feel; it’s all about the groove.

Martinet - Unravel

Aus welcome back label favourite Shenoda for his third release on the label, ‘Burn’ backed with a remix from Juxta Position. Previous releases on Hypercolour & Electric Minds have seen Shenoda firmly on the ascent but it’s in his recent outings on Aus that his bold, rugged club music has really reached its zenith. ‘Burn’ follows suit with its predecessors with its power being rooted in seismic, analogue drums that are balanced against soft, allaying melodies. The muscular 'Vista' then rolls out punching stabs and tight, shuffling drums before label mate Marquis Hawkes dusts off his Juxta Position alias and delivers a pacey and forthright take on ‘Burn'. Melodies are softly mangled and given a spectral quality that recalls his ‘Mazury’ on DVS1’s Mistress wrapping another solid addition to the catalogue as the Aus Music family continue to deliver the goods.

Congratulations on the release of your latest EP 'Burn' and thank you for taking the time out to record a mix for our podcast series.

Where did you record the mix? 

The mix was recorded in my studio in sunny East London which is where I record most mixes as well as make music. I wanted the mix to represent a snapshot of how I play in a typical set. I've included a usual mixture of recent, forthcoming and older tunes with some of my own music thrown in for good measure. (S)

What equipment did you use?

Annoyingly I spilt tea on my trusty old Allen and Heath Xone 62 the other week so I had to use Ableton this time round. I’ve still very much approached it as if I were mixing live though. (S)

You've played many gigs over the years but how did it feel closing out 2016 at Warehouse Project with Richie Hawtin, Ben Klock, Andrew Weatherall, Ben UFO & Objekt?

Yeah sharing with the bill with a lineup like that was a real highlight of last year for sure. It was actually the second time I’ve played the Warehouse Project but was the first time I’d played the Store Street venue. The night was curated by the Hydra so you know it’s guaranteed to be a good one with those guys. Dolan and Ajay are a great pair and have impeccable taste when it comes to programming. (S)
 
What else is on the horizon for 2017?’ 

First off is my next release for Aus which is out this week digitally and on wax very soon I believe. My main focus for the rest of this year is finishing off as much music as possible and get it out there. Admittedly in the past I’ve tended to over think things when writing and probably taken a bit too long to finish music off which has left a bit of space between releases. Thankfully I'm having a real creative burst at the minute, perhaps down to investing in some new toys for the studio and not overthinking things when writing. Most of what I’m writing now is the result of live hardware jam’s and are fleshed out quickly from those initial ideas. I'm sitting on a ton of new tracks I'm really happy with so there will be plenty coming this year to watch out for. (S)

The German/Danish collaboration delivers "Zodiac" , a melodic, groovy tech house track, which is accompanied by 2 remixes - one from Kollektiv Ost, the other from Martin Waslewski. Guilty pleasures, we all have them. This release updates and fiddles with some serious guilty pleasures that all but the youngest of music fans will recognise. HOD Stash is a series of treasures from a label that shall remain nameless but you’ll no doubt recognise. 

Satin Jackets is the first to revive a track that needs no introduction. ‘Dee Baby’ removes all the elements that date this classic track and replace them with a different calmer soul. 

The last track on the A side see’s ‘Dee Baby’ get the dub treatment and Satin Jackets has created a key laden, familiar, behemoth of nostalgia for you to indulge on. 

On the flip side we have a homage to another 90’s classic from a producer that’s literally exploded over the course of this year ‘Finnebassen’. Remember Me’s seductive bassline and lingering synth’s create a similar low slung mood to the original.

Finally seeing us out we have EJECA’s musical marmite ‘Natal’ which plucks a very familiar sample indeed as he gives pulls off the impossible and crafts a trance guilty pleasure into an addictive, patient house groover peppered with a typically ravey vocal.
