MoDem Festival‬ in Croatia is widely considered one of the best, and most important, festivals on the psytrance calendar. It’s influence on the festival scene cannot be understated. When I started making this music, I promised myself that, before I was 30, I wanted to play on the Hive stage. Well, 5 days before my 30th birthday, I had the honour of doing just that. It did not disappoint, and it was the best dancefloor I have ever had the privilege of experiencing.

I decided early on that this was where I was going to debut my new album (forthcoming soon on Bom Shanka Music) and record the entire set. So, here it is – the full video of my set on Thursday 8th August 13:30-15:00 on the Hive.

Thank you to everyone that danced, everyone that filmed and everyone that gave me emotional support in the stress of finishing the tracks before the gig! Act One Live @ Modem 2024

It is finally time to release my second album: Mio (along with a long ramble about it)

This has been an incredible journey to make over the last two years and I am overjoyed to share it with you. Each track was made with intention and purpose both musically and personally to create a Psytrance album that is designed to be listened to from start to finish – as well as work individually on dancefloors. Over the coming weeks, after release, I will take you all through each track and its meaning and creation.

I streamed the writing of all these tracks on Twitch as I strongly believe that music is meant to be a shared experience and build community. It was amazing to let everybody into the process and to have their live feedback and share knowledge between all of us.

Part of what makes music so much fun for me is the learning and the challenge to push myself and push the music. I wanted to do that with this album and tried to use unique methods of sound design in each track with a clear concept of the track before even starting – part of this challenge was to not use FM at all throughout the whole thing.

The album is named Mio for my young Nephew whom I adore. It was meant to be released on his 4th birthday, but due to distributor-based-boring-administrative reasons got delayed by a couple of weeks. He is moving further away from me and this felt like a great opportunity to toast him!

I have had the BEST time making this album and have loved seeing people’s reactions on the dancefloor to it so thank you all and I really hope that you enjoy it and understand the intentions behind it.

A huge thanks to Al Shanka  for the mastering, Struan  for the amazing artwork everyone at Bom Shanka Music, Tadhg and Josh Eritas for being great friends and dealing with my crippling lack of self confidence and bloody all of yous!

Act One - Mio (Full album mix)

Super happy to share my new EP - Four Wee Ditties 

This EP was slightly accidental, as I had been working on music experimenting with my sound design and continuing the concept and style of Mio, but pushing it further and more of a refined/efficient way. I realised that I had four tracks ready and that it made sense to put them out as a release. 

So, I give you four dancefloor tracks of me pushing my synthesis. I tried out 3 out of 4 of these tracks at Boom for the first time and was super happy with how they went down - actually, most of the videos that people took from the dancefloor were if these tracks so I think that is a good sign!

Act One's album Ou-Topos, on Digital Shamans Records, was a fresh start for Jack both musically and in his life. It started with an empty PC, living in a new city, a new job and with fresh ideas so it was a huge adventure to work on. He tried to do something that had a different style to his previous work and push himself to create an album that flows and that he would want to listen to himself.  Featuring on this album is collaborations with Southwild and Fractal Spin, and a remix of Fagin's Reject alongside 7 solo tracks. The name Ou-Topos comes from combining the Greek words ‘ou’, not, no; and ‘topos’, place. Ou-Topos is better known in modern vernacular as Utopia - a perfect world; idealistic but all too often described as fictional.
