The famous Dutch piano player Louis van Dijk made a piano improvisation recording on this theme. It was 1971. There was no music notation of the piece, so I wrote it down, listening to capture every note by means of a taperecorder playing the music back and forth. I was 18 years old and did the work of a monk. But it was a good training in listening. Now I made this recording which you'll hopefully enjoy!

I took the bold challenge to arrange this Bach piece with VST. I used CSS strings, Audiomoddelling SWAM strings. Two violins solo, two violins 1, three violins 2, three viola's, two celli, one cello bas, one double bas.
I used Altiverb as an acoustic environment. Playing with TEC breath control to control volume, vibrato, bow pressure and bow position.

Although written in a minor key, it is still a cheerful and even 'swinging' piece of Bach. When I arranged the second part first with VST, I thought I should try the first part as well. Much more complicated, yes......

The Vier Letzte Lieder by Richards Strauss (1864-1949) is one of the highlights of Late Romanticism and is one of my favorite pieces with all its capricious chromaticism and harmonic modulations. The so-called “floating tonality”, in which the limits of the tonal system are explored. (See also Mahler and Wagner.) Originally it is a symphonic poem for voice and orchestra. I made an arrangement and replaced the vocals with the violin. The challenge for me was to present my VST's software (Virtual Sound Technic) as convincingly as possible, so that it was barely distinguishable from a “real” (acoustic) orchestra. That also meant playing/editing (and blowing in with the TEC controller) of 27 tracks (instruments)….using Divisimate.

Many composers are and were fascinated by many of Bach's compositions.
According to Glenn Gould, some compositions transcend Bach as independent greats.
Universal and not of this earth with Bach as an intermediary.
For that reason, Glenn Gould thought that everyone should also be allowed to do what is musically responsible.

The theme from this cantata (actually for chorus..) is a transcription by the well-known contemporary modern composer Kurtag.
He wrote it for four hands.
The work has been reduced to its essence, as its purest form.
The power lies in the art of telling with the right articulation.
When playing I think horizontally, moving forward in a constant flow…..A big arc…How beautiful can it be to start the new year so hopeful!

Originally this piece of the Dutch composer Simeon ten Holt is minimal music lasting about 60 minutes performed by 2 or 4 or... x- piano's. It exists of modules which you can more or less freely set together. I reduced it by taking out several themes of modules I liked. By doing so the minimal aspect is a little bit lost, because the themes become obvious and plain. What remains are clear melodies.

This piece of Bach (BWV 855) has three layers: bas appercio left, melodie, and broken chords in the right. In a steady tempo Baroque style the different layers do not become very apparent. I took the liberty to play a very rubato-style to give the different layers much attention. Beside the altered piano I also joined the cello, mellotron and made a brush effect. It is based on an arrangement of Alexander Siloti. I hope Bach will forgive me my romantic fragile version...

This well known piece of Bach is briljant in it's simplicity. Every note is in its right place and it is also a fine example of 'parlando', or playing as if it was spoken. I made some little adjustments too the original. Close your eyes and imagine the piano is telling you a story. I hope you'll enjoy this monologue.

I made acquaintance with the software "Una Corda" which means one snare. Usually the piano has three for most of the tones. So this sound is very thin. It has also many features in preparation in tone. (felt,cotton e.a.) and mechanic sounds. I thought the sound is very appropriate for the esoteric music of Erik Satie. I love to change composing in different musical genres. But now its time for recording  some existing classical pianomusic. I love to play this Mazurka of Chopin. It's a bit peculiar Mazurka because it has a lot more to offer then a nimbly, light dance from Poland. At some places it has fugato-like inserts and rapid changes in harmony. The piano is really treated as a concert-instrument with all its dynamics and range. I hope you like my version.

This part of Bach's suite is originally ment for orchestra. This is a transcription of the world famous pianist Siloti. Pianists often have the audacity to borrow 'others' music, but don't shoot the piano player: it's all because they like the other stuff so much! To my opinion this piece is often played too romantic. I hope you like my interpretation.

I have to admit that I don't have that much talent anymore to play this piece well in one go because of a malfunction of my fourth rightfinger several years ago. So I took different takes and put the best pieces next to each other. Is that bad? I do not know. The famous pianist Glenn Gould no longer performed after a few years of concerts. He wanted perfect recordings and ..... he took various takes and chose the best.
It's a difficult piece of music in that sense to get it all regularly at this pace. A Gique is a dance form from a Suite, and that is another series of dances.
