Dekmantel Selectors 2021 was a much needed musical reunion. After the preceding period of stillness, the catharsis and pure joy of finally being together again has been overwhelming. In the words of Skatebård: "I hope this recording can give you an idea of the vibe of the Beach stage at Selectors. And for those who were there, a snapshot of how it was actually like.
For me it felt like a lot of the music I like to play was made for moments like that night right there."

Based in Queensland, Australia, Nerang Recordings has put out music from Interplanetary Criminal, Subjoi, DJ Swagger, DJ Bowlcut, J. Albert, Cassettes For Kids, and many more since its inception in 2016. Reaching five years of the imprint, head honcho Dj Whipr Snipr curates the second ‘Freaky Friends’ compilation, featuring contributions from a host of label associates and hotly tipped producers for six fast-paced, heavy-hitting tracks
 
Leading the release, Shall Not Fade and E-Beamz affiliate DJ Swagger’s ‘Hoticewater’ blends deep oscillations with skipping breaks and shimmering pads, with Low Tape’s ‘So Delicious’ following, keeping the energy high. 
Striking vocals meet trippy FX and electro-tinged drum patterns across the track, a continuation of the DJ/producer’s releases on the likes of X-Kalay and Of Paradise. 
Fresh off the back of their recent ‘Sportsgoth’ EP, Brazil’s Nørus and Dj Whipr Snipr collide once more on ‘Molecular Collision’, bringing classic 808 kits, acid lines, and squelchy synthesisers together. 

Classic electro sounds meet modern production techniques on LA-based Ole Mic Odd’s ‘In The House’, as robotic vocal lines meet heavy arps. Ramping up the tempo, Berlin-based Nasty Enterprises boss Nasty King Kurl returns to the label with a fast and powerful off-kilter jam, leaning on freaked out vocals and tough percussion. 
Rounding out the release, Cologne’s Turk Turkelton offers up ‘Offenbachs Father’, delivering a track complete with razor-sharp drum workout and expressive synth work.

Kintsho Ka Tshabalala was the famed percussionist at the equally-infamous Berlin Lounge Bar, "off a lane", deep in the darkest heart of after-hours Surfers Paradise, on Queenslands Gold Coast. Often in the advertising material of the time he was referred to as simply "bongo man"! Samples used in this track are of the late Kintsho's fabulous conga playing, and also a few vocal snippets of his voice from an interview he gave on Radio Metro around that time.

Our VA series Oddness arrives once again with Vol II, with a bunch of new artists to bring you delightful music, from the strangest to the most psychedelic and experimental stuff.

Starting with “Brain Break”, is Funboys tribute to electronic music pioneer Raymond Scott, with subtle samples of Scott’s works featured throughout the track.
The music is built around an analogue recording technique called Rhythm Printing, a TB-303 with the infamous Australian Devilfish modification has been processed multiple times using the Rhythm Printing technique.
The result is a punky electro breaks monster for the darkest of warehouses, with the vocal reminding the listener that their “brain needs a break” - advice we can all use!

Next one is a rising producer from Germany, Heidenreich with recent releases in labels such as Duro and Odd Pleasures, is debuting now on the label with “Plastre Plasters” a unique piece, with psy synths, trippy percs and cosmic vibe.

From Italy Visionnaire & Cupo Mediterraneo brings “Fools and Fires” is made with some instruments recorded live like guitar and vocal. Trippy and obscure experimental vibes
Slow and dark (if you want to add something else you can do).
Not only sound, not only spirit. The body seizes both and becomes their lord, temple, space, nature. A journey between shadows and lights.

This ride continues with "Fly Inside" is the final result of the sound fusion between the Mexican producer Armendariz and Argentinian Live performer Cali Burton.
Psychedelic synthesizers and guitars with a lot of character, inviting us to explore within ourselves, they take us on an introspective musical journey.

Last but not least from Irapuato, Mexico we have the honor to have for the first time on the label the producer My Boy Roy, part of Fabrizio Mammarella’s and Franz Scala’s imprint Wrong Era.
“Seti” is his deliver to Oddness Vol II, a combination between Italo and Breaks, with a cosmic touch, an exquisite track to close this VA.

PREMIERE : Funboys - Brain Break

As A.D.A.M. Baby! (A Disco Ate My BABY!), I started to make music for the dancefloor at the now-legendary Berlin Lounge Bar, Surfers Paradise, back in 2000. Some of these tracks were released on several 12 inch vinyl 45s, and started receiving attention from DJs further afield. After that I took a portable version of my studio out to play live, and had support from local and national radio. Triple J released the "Groove Train" album on CD featuring my track "Hold On". Pete Tong's Essential Mix  featured my edit of Dusty Springfield's classic "Windmills Of Your Mind".

For the last fifteen years or so I've been the producer and studio monkey for Funboys.
