Hailing from Christchurch, Damage Control (aka Brookie Thorpe) came straight out of red light COVID restrictions to debut supporting local legends Truth, Witters, Crafty & State of Mind and internationals, LUUDE & Maduk, Gray & Kara, K Motionz, Bru-C, Ben Snow, Bunnshin and REAPER. Damage Control has also hit the big smoke, Auckland with her debut at Pointers on support for Codem and Wellington at Love Not Lost on support for Andromedik. She also played Re-Ori week alongside Aussies, Peking Duk and Stace Cadet. Damage Control had her Christchurch Arena debut in October on support for Sub Focus with his Circular Sound Tour alongside Krakota and Goddard all within the first 10 months of djing. With her first festival season complete with a set at Rolling Meadows and her kick start to 2023 with the Golden lights after party alongside Dimension and Kmotionz and the Netsky & friends after party Damage Control is going full steam ahead this year. 


“This is a high energy mix of some of my favorite songs and blends I've been trialing out over the summer. It has a good mixture of dancefloor, sick bootlegs, some naughty little jump up doubles and a few sneaky IDs from friends that I love playing out. This mix is special to me because not only is it my first ever mix but it also can be used as a constant reminder that not everything has to be perfect and it's always a great opportunity to look back on and grow from.”

We’re deep into the UK’s third national lockdown. We’re stuck at home, we’re bored of Zoom, and let’s face it –wouldn’t we all love a couple of Guinness’ down the pub right now? Unfortunately, Born on Road can’t pour you any drinks, but what we can do is give you two pints of something heavier and darker than any Guinness you’ve ever tasted - the long-awaited Born on Road dub, ‘Couple Guinness’.

Served up by label mainstay Selecta J-Man, ‘Couple Guinness’has been doing the rounds in our sets for over a year, but now it’s time to give everyone a proper taste of its full-bodied goodness. Fierce and ferocious, ‘Couple Guinness’is a continuation of the energetic sound Selecta J-Man has been honing since bursting on to the scene in 2016 with his debut Born on Road EP ‘Cease & Sekkle’. 

As a producer continually striving to fuse his reggae influences into drum and bass, Selecta J-Man teaming up with veteran Jamaican artist Suku was a combination destined for greatness. Renowned for his work with dancehall act Ward 21, Suku’s vocals are as feel good and refreshing as someone offering to buy you your second pint at the pub.

‘Couple Guinness’ may only be SelectaJ-Man’s first D&B release of 2021, but it follows on from the producer achieving great featsin 2020 with the release of his ‘My Style’EP on Born on Road, along with his label favourite link up with DJ Gaw on ‘Rum & Lime’ (Feat. A Little Sound].

We may not be able to share a drink together at a rave right now, but hopefully ‘Couple Guinness’ will give you a taste of what we can look forward to when the good times do return.
