Just a lazy demo track I made on my day off. I haven't made anything the last year and I needed to justify all those plugins that I bought.

Demo Track 1 - 2024

I went full 80s synth-magic on this one. I'd say it needs a bit more variation but it's roughly what I was shooting for.

Learning Goals:
Recreate 80s sound using modern synths
Dat 80s snare
Catchy melody
Keep it short

Under A False Sun

I was cruising the internet this morning looking for some new sounds to try out in FL Studio and I found this great electric piano sound. Next thing you know, I've got some sort of 80's ballad written. I've used this opportunity to practice recording/producing guitar in FL studio as well. I'm not too happy with some of the piano parts and this could use a real 80's solo in it so let's consider this a demo for now.

Violet Sunrise

This is my first attempt at a synthwave track. Most of my time was spent on sound design since this was my first time really diving into subtractive synthesis. This genre relies on using authentic sounding synths (which can be a challenge when you're using digital plugins).

Goals :
Use subtractive synthesis to create new sounds (including a T H I C C lead)
Incorporate some genre staples like automated low pass filters, arps, and metallic pad sounds
Try my best to avoid a muddy mix

Undertow

Well, I've hit 6 months since I started re-learning music composition/production. The real point of this track was to write something that my friends might actually listen to at some point since most of my other tracks have been one kind of experiment or another. I've still got a lot to learn about EDM composition and production but I think this covers most of the basics. I may come back to this at some point to the future and record some real vocals.

Goals:
Create that house vibe with my own flavor
Include some vocal samples (keepin' it stock)
Get some acoustic guitar in there... because I can.

The Bold

I had a creative block for the last month but today I started playing a riff and went from there. Nothing complicated. I also took the opportunity to improv a solo on my new synth. This is my first ever improvised solo so there's nothing fancy here.

New stuff for this track:
-Record a fat lead on my new Minilogue Xd
-Improvise a synth solo live. Just go with it. No midi.
-Use stock synth effects where possible
-Try out the new Flex plugin from FL Studio for backing synths.
-SYNTH SOLO!!!

Rewind

I set out to make my second lo-fi hip hop style track in a single session and decided I needed some lyrics. Since I can't sing, I was going to use an old poem that I had written when I came across Archaeology by Josh Baptie. The lyrics fit the music and arrangement really well so I went with it. It flowed well enough that I recorded the whole thing in one take. Hopefully, I'll clean it up later but this is what I have so far.

Another etcCollaboration! This time with Megs providing lyrics via a poem that she wrote. I had to modify it slightly to make it work for the song structure but it's 90+% intact.  

Apologies in advance to Megs for me destroying her perfectly good lyrics with my voice. I took the Satellite metaphor and ran with hit so hopefully all the weird effects and pitch correction make it somewhat listenable.

Another etcCollaboration! This is based on another one of Meg's awesome poems. You should spend some time on her instagram if you haven't already.

I spent a while on the last track so I wanted to keep this short and simple to match the format of the poem. This track is just a single mic, a guitar, and some reverb. It was recorded in two takes with no other fancy production stuff so apologies for the singing (again).
