This week’s show was all about soulful house. Host Kempton dived deep into his collection for a fine selection of gorgeous tunes and euphoric bangers. Check out his own show on NDC Radio every Saturday, Brothers in House, with co-host Yorkee.

His guest for the second hour was s a UK-based DJ and producer who has established a strong reputation in the soulful and deep house music scene. Hailing from Sheffield, he has been active for over two decades, both behind the decks and in the studio. His style is deeply rooted in the sounds of funk, soul, Latin, jazz-funk and disco, which he fuses into his house productions and DJ sets. His productions and remixes have appeared on major house music labels including Defected Records, Nite Grooves, Ministry of Sound and others.

Here's my recent set for the Black Octopus Birthday Bash at Edit (formerly Tide) in Brighton on the 18th October 2025! It was quite a day for the lads having warmed up for Laurent Garnier earlier in the day and my third time playing for them again! An honour to spin tunes with them and the legend that is Justin Robertson! A great night was had by all and sundry. Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed playing there again!

Ben Jamin – Cosmic Miracles 3 (HOTDIGITS130)

Ben Jamin checks into the Hot Digits chalet once again with Cosmic Miracles 3, a sumptuous slow-mo 5 tracker that will warm the cockles of your heart. 

‘Baby’ occupies that very special sweet spot where low BPMs and ‘melty’ basslines merge with dubby brass and acid flicks. Make no mistake, this is serious boudoir music that undresses you with its eyes and beckons you into the shadows whilst the electrified, soulful vocals bend your mind. Stunning. 

For ‘Brought You Together’, Ben Jamin ventures up to 101bpm Avenue territory and into the best piano bar in town. The sultry, smoky vocals elevate this one well above your average downtempo groove, with a chorus that deserves the best romantic montage ever committed to film. 

Staying in the 101 range, ‘Mama’ has all the elements needed for a vintage slow-speed chugger that’s driven by a classy, shimmering Memphis soul vibe heavy on the blues and liberal with the rhythm. Just come to mama – you know you want to. 

When we pop ‘Next Door’ the tempo drops just a little and takes us into a straight up funk laden love letter to the likes of Marlena Shaw and Aretha. Strikingly sassy, ‘Next Door’ pops it’s rhythm like buttons slowly being undone. More sexy stuff from Mr Jamin. 

‘Three Steps’ gets us all feeling warm and Chaka – an almost mid-tempo funk/R&B throbber that smells and sounds divine. This is a recovery programme we can all get on board with, three steps to your heart and it’ll all be ok. One for opening the night! 

Cosmic Miracles 3 is exactly what Hot Digits is all about - sexy, alluring and irresistible. This 5 track EP brings the tempo down perfectly for the long winter nights and demands you stay in the warmth.
