'Dead Flowers' is the new single from Adam Sweet, due for release on 30th July 2021.

Like many other artists, independent blues-rock guitarist and singer-songwriter Adam Sweet started livestreaming via Facebook throughout 2020 after live performances were cancelled due to the global pandemic. One song, ‘Dead Flowers’, was requested again and again becoming a firm favourite with his audience. 

Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, it was originally released 50 years ago on their 1971 album ‘Sticky Fingers’. As a Rolling Stones fan Adam started including the song in his solo acoustic sets – the laid back country feel providing a contrast to his own driving blues/rock compositions. The track became a regular feature of Adam’s livestreams and was requested during every show.

The new single, recorded in Adam’s home studio, is true to his solo livestream performances with Adam’s acoustic guitar providing the foundation with the addition of his band members Ian Jennings on bass and Garry Kroll on drums, plus vocal harmonies by Alex Hart.

This is the first single to be released from Adam’s highly anticipated new album ‘Sink or Swim’. The album showcases a big step forward in his career with a sound that’s developed from working closely with new band members Ian Jennings on bass (Jeff Beck, Robert Plant, Ronnie Wood, Mick Fleetwood) and Garry Kroll on drums (Mark Ronson, Joss Stone, Sandi Thom, Andrea Bocelli). This single also features stunning harmonica from one of UK’s leading blues harp players Ian Briggs (Savoy Brown, Michael Roach, and alongside Eric Clapton and the legendary Yardbirds in the 60s).

With the tale of a chance encounter told via the internal dialogue of the listener, ‘You or Me’ anticipates a time when social distancing becomes a thing of the past. Adam playfully asks “Who will make the first move? You or me?” as the mystery and excitement grow.

‘Like it or Not’ is the second single to be released from Adam’s eagerly awaited album ‘Sink or Swim’. This latest track is a sweet brooding ballad with electrifying guitar solos and lush Hammond melodies. Along with other tracks from the album it marks Adam’s evolution from a solo acoustic performer to a fully-fledged blues-rock artist. This carefully crafted song features band members Ian Jennings on upright bass (Jeff Beck, Robert Plant, Ronnie Wood, Mick Fleetwood) and Garry Kroll on drums (Mark Ronson, Joss Stone, Sandi Thom, Andrea Bocelli). The single also introduces producer Josiah J Manning (Kris Barras Band) on Hammond organ and piano.

Here Adam is in careening full-tilt rock mode with ‘Here to Nowhere’ – a song dedicated to a friend and mentor of Adam’s who lived life to the full and departed too soon. No time is wasted punching straight to the anthemic chorus before Adam and his band, comprising Ian Jennings on bass (Jeff Beck, Robert Plant, Ronnie Wood, Mick Fleetwood) and Garry Kroll on drums (Mark Ronson, Joss Stone, Sandi Thom), take you on a journey recounting a meeting filled with nostalgia, humour and mystery that would turn out to be the last. One of the most dynamic songs on the album it closes with a big guitar finish delivered with all the power and emotion the subject matter deserves. The track also benefits from the haunting ascending backing vocals of Alex Hart and Joanna Cooke.

Devil's Lake

Taking his cue from the British blues boom sounds of Free and early Fleetwood Mac, married to the driving guitar style of Rory Gallagher and the sweet sounds of Little Feat and the Allman Brothers, Adam has spent the last decade carving out his own territory between classic rock, blues and Americana. Working in various guises: solo acoustic, session player and with his own band he has developed the consummate ability to switch from sensitive singer-songwriter to full-on blues rocker with ease, as demonstrated in his countless live performances and his output as a recording artist.
