“I’m Sorry” is about an emotional blackout, leaning into those feelings that the world is against you, totally wrecking everything and hurting someone close to you because of your own hurt. You can’t think straight, your emotions are jumbled and you’re totally defenseless against that pendulum between “highest highs” and “murderous lows”… The whole song’s kind of an apology for what you did during that out-of-body experience, when you became someone you’re not. 

When we wrote this we were listening to a J-pop artist we both revere, Kazumasa Oda - we covered his famous song “Love Story Wa Totsuzen Ni” on our EP “Boys Love”. His songs are so masterfully crafted, with each member of the band knowing exactly where to pop in and out, and then all of it coming together to articulate these perfectly balanced chord progressions. The bridge in “I’m Sorry” and changing the chord progression in the last chorus…those were our ways of embracing those recordings and arrangement techniques.

Cyrus Reynolds releases his new single ’Foraker’ featuring S. Carey on September 14th through Swedish label Dumont Dumont  (Ry X, Josin, Charlie Cunningham). ‘Foraker’ features Bon Iver member (backing vocals and drums) S. Carey on vocals.

Crafting a sound out of both love for the orchestra and for modern songwriting, Los Angeles-based artist and producer Cyrus Reynolds leans towards the cinematic and dramatic. A classically trained composer (Royal Academy of Music) turned electronic sound designer (Output, Kanye), he draws his own sound from familiar textures and twists them into new sonic landscapes, finally holding them together by threads of interwoven narratives and personal lyrics.

Cyrus explains ”Foraker, at its heart, is a love letter to my wife, harpist Lara Somogyi, and set in the Denali region of Alaska through the eyes of a wayward traveler. There’s this deep connection with the heart of the glacier (Foraker) and the outdoors and he keeps coming back to this same place to look for something that’s actually inside himself. It’s a harkening back to why I write music."

”S. Carey came on to the song through a mutual friend I’ve written a couple of orchestral songs with, Ivan Howard. He recorded the vocals and it immediately had all of this character; introspection and the kind of joy you want to shout off a cliff. I know Sean must have really connected with the message - because he really just got the song in every way. The song had a heart, and then S. Carey came in and gave it a pulse.”
