I had some time to kill, so I watched all 24 hours of the music video for Pharrell Williams' great song "Happy," and it reminded me of Janelle Monae's great song "Tightrope," and that reminded me that  I should  make something I like and put it on my Soundcloud page for people to play at their DJ gigs (drums in and out), or their children's birthday parties. 
Also, let's all take Pharrell and Janelle's advice. (Pharelle Monae? Janelle Williams?)

I don't like most current pop music so much as "tolerate" it, but I liked "Locked Out of Heaven" from the moment I heard it. Considering the producers behind it, i guess that's not very surprising. 

It's great to be a DJ when pop records that are really good actually get popular. It's even better when you're lucky enough to stumble across sweet blends, which is how this happened as I was preparing my 2013 Red Bull Thre3style set. 

This version has the chorus over the double-time hook, as well as the  breakdown/half-time drums, depending on where you want to go after playing it. Insert cuepoints as appropriate, and choose your own adventure!

Instrumental re-work of the song maybe best best known to people of a certain age as the theme to the '70s sitcom "Taxi" but best known to Bay Area rap fans as the sample to Souls Of Mischief's "Cab Fare." It's one of my favourite beats, and I've always wished there was a good instrumental. I finally started making one, but ended up incorporating more of the original Bob James than I planned.
