Wonky Acid House Live At The Imaginarium

In hour 2 Strictly Kev presents his ‘Lynch Party mix Part 1’. Brendan Lynch is probably best known for his remixes and production work for the likes of Paul Weller, Primal Scream and Ocean Colour Scene. In his Lynchmob guise, alongside Max Heyes, he's arguably been responsible for the more experimental moments in these groups' careers, taking tracks and twisting them inside out. In the first of two mixes, Strictly Kev collects the best of these for a downtempo set of heavy beats, dub and electronics, the modfather features on half of it but this is his most funky, out there material.

Solid Steel (19th September) Coldcut start the show this week, taking Timber for an acid workout with Jack Frost, followed by Francis Bebey remixed by Daphni, Bambounou and classic Fela which coincides with the excellent Finding Fela documentary in cinema's now. Then we take a journey back to 1987 as Coldcut deconstruct their classic first release 'Say Kids What Time Is It?' and rebuild with the original samples and more, for an archeology extended version. 
Jon More from Coldcut had this to say 'It started by pulling out the original records to photograph - then its…. lets put this back together and I dug out the four track - slung it all in the computer & it ballooned out -  enjoy the old skoolness'

Clash: Tell us about the mood of the mix: 

Adam Freeland: I did the mix the day the heavens opened and dumped a foot of snow on Brighton. That icy cold made me crave warmth, so going deep into tribal African territory felt like the natural thing to do. So it’s a mixture of stuff I’m playing in my live DJ sets at the moment, from the likes of Trentemøller, Scuba, Ramadanman, Logo, SBTRKT, Black Van, Max Cooper etc. That sounds like quite a schizophrenic selection, but the tribal rhythm, percussion and chants chopped into the mix I think really tie the flow together. 

C: Favourite track from the mix? 

AF: Subway, ‘DBO’, I think makes a real epic statement of intent as an intro. 

C: What makes a good remix, for you personally? 

AF: There’s no rule. I was going to say a remix which takes the original and embellishes and distills its qualities, but I realised that some of my favourite remixes have been of tracks that have hardly even acknowledged the original. 

C: What do you have planned for 2011? 

AF: Collaborating. I just really want to work with other peers and artists at the moment. I’m working on lots of different projects, from stoner shoegaze drone-rock stuff to some more dancefloor analogue-drenched stuff. I’ll be producing an album for one of my all-time favorite artists. This year I’ve started a new project with Paul Hartnoll of Orbital, we haven’t got round to deciding on a name yet...
