In Hour 2 we hand over to Adam Freeland who has been producing music for over two decades, which included running his Marine Parade label out of Brighton, a 10 year residency at Fabric and nomination for a Grammy. Now he is part of The Acid, which includes RY X from The Howling. He told us; 
"This mix is really just an acknowledgement of my lifelong love of arpeggiators and excitement for this new wave of arpeggiated synth stuff combined with some deeper drones and desert psych influences. I’m living totally off grid way out in the Mohave desert near Joshua tree, where this mix was recorded. My studio is solar powered ( no other option out here), there’s an exhilarating feeling to know that the photons running through the circuit boards of my machines emanated from the surface the Sun just 8 mins and 20 seconds prior. Of late, I’ve been more focused on my band ‘The Acid’  and pursuing my lifelong dream of living off grid and figuring out how to build a house than DJing. Incase you missed it we ( The Acid) put out a debut album called ‘Liminal’ and more recently we scored a documentary film  ‘the bomb’  a documentary about the story of nuclear weapons. We have been touring film festivals, performing the score in a 360 immersive environment live to the film. In December we performed it live at the Nobel peace prize ceremonies in Oslo which was in incredibly inspiring and moving experience for me. All Basses Covered (The Infamous South Beach Set, December 2012)

Solid Steel in association with Serato (4th January) It's 2013 and we're celebrating 25 years of 'The Broadest Beats' on Solid Steel. But first we take a look at where it all began, before Solid Steel even started. 
On the pirate station Kiss FM in the mid to late eighties Matt Black and Jon More both had separate shows, we hear clips from both and then as they joined forces in 1988 prior to Kiss shutting down whilst applying for legal status at the end of the year.

To start with we scan the airwaves through various London Pirate Stations of the time, landing at Kiss 94 FM to hear Matt Black's  Mastermix Dance Party dropping exclusive Coldcut tracks for the first time and music from the emerging House scene. Jon More takes over with the Meltdown Party playing 'new' releases from The Beastie Boys, Eric B & Rakim and Adrian Sherwood plus the original version of 'The Only Way Is Up' that they later covered with Yazz and took to the top of the charts.

Then we hear them together for their last show on the Pirate Kiss 94 FM whilst waiting for a licence. Music comes from Kraftwerk plus a Todd Terry workout and, as they say goodbye, we hear a farewell from Kiss founder Gordon Mac and the announcement of a new commercial station for London...

The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.

We bring together the friendliest partyheads,
to enjoy the finest underground party music.

We started in September 2004, when DJs El Carlos and Purplenoiz joined forces. Playing upstairs at the Patkav, Moseley, a local bar with an intimate dancefloor, perfect for a pre-club session.

In 2005 we moved down the road to 'Upstairs' at the Cross. There was a huge attic with a dancefloor, bar and chillout area complete with sofas and dimmed lighting.

We started 2006 in the famous Epic bar at Moseley's old bus depot. We then moved to Rooty Frooty at the Custard Factory. The cosy cafe became a club by night. With organic drinks and a dancefloor, it was perfect for Jumping & Shaking.

In 2007 we joined forces with Citricity to take over the whole of Moseley's old bus depot for a massive allniter.
