CHP Mix Sessions

A 2 and a half hour Live DJ set from General Midi from way back in 2005. Although Mr Midi starts off a bit rusty with the mixes he soon warms to the decks to take you on a journey and a half.

General Midi, or Paul Crossman, who also performed under the name Fluid, came out of the Bristol club scene, making a splash when he became resident DJ at the Shimmy Club in 1994. His mix of breakbeat with nu-skool, electronica, house, and hip-hop made him a popular act.

General Midi’s singles have been released on some of the most respected breaks labels of the time, including TCR (Rennie Pilgrims label) & Kilowatt (Hyper’s label). In 1999 he released his single “The Westerner,” followed two years later by “Daft Funk,” the same year that his first full-length release, Genetically Modified. All of this has led to his debut artist album ‘Midi Style’ which was released on Distinct’ive Records in 2005. In 2009 he released his follow up album ‘Operation Overdrive’.

Paul Crossman also worked with writing partner and audio engineer Al Watson in the duo act called “Starecase”.

Currently Paul Crossman works as as a Teacher of Computing at Lampton School, London UK.

For the 25th edition of the CHP Mix series we have a very special treat for you all. I had the honor and privilege to record a one-for-one b2b set with Legendary bass technician, Scratch-D!

Our goal for the session was to juxtapose old school classics with new school electronics to create a synergistic sound that takes you on an eclectic journey through more than 40 years of legendary music. It was a huge honor to record with such a huge inspiration, mentor, and friend and I am mega hyped about the creative body of sound we made to share with you.

Unconstrained by trends, his numerous game-changing contributions to the dance music world span over two decades longer than any EDM jock of the moment. There have been some great new tunes since the beginning of the year and we are still finding some that we missed in the recent past. But we've also dug deeper into history, as the legendary Altern 8 will be coming to Prague in March! We grabbed a collection of rare, unreleased and hard-to-find tracks, edits, bootlegs and remixes that Left/Right put up on Bandcamp for a few hours as part of the CONDU||T LA fire relief fundraiser. And! Our favourite broken party Hyper Real will be back at Fuchs 2 this year, so we asked its curator Opium Hum to send us his selection of 5 current favourite tracks. Thanks a lot! D.Vices is a project of Jack Coleman, a DJ, producer, event organizer and live performer based in Portland, Oregon. Andre Elektro Morales is a Florida-based DJ with over 30 years in the game, known for his deep crates, precision mixing, and unapologetic passion for the music. He came up at the legendary Painted Puppy record store, working alongside and learning from Florida breakbeat legend Rick West, with key mentorship from B-Nice of Funklab and Adam Grow of Ohverclock and CHP Recordings Ltd. A proud member of Tampa’s own Krimefyter hip hop crew, Andre was part of a rare and humbling moment: a guest mix for the late, great Annie Nightingale on BBC Radio 1. For Elektro, this journey has never been about chasing clout—it’s about paying respect to those who came before, repping the ones who stand for the real, and letting the music do what it was always meant to do: move people.

Kim Cosmik started as a DJ for free party soundsystems Spiral Tribe and Bedlam and DJs at festivals and clubs all over the U.K and Europe. She was also one of the first women to play at the ledgendary Knowledge club in London.

Kim Cosmik has played at events such as Rebel Union at Fold, Unfold, Don't at Corsica studios, Shambala festval, Boomtown Festival, Woodfest, Electroweks, Hybrid rave at The Glove That Fits and Iklecktic in London as well as About Blank in Berlin and several events in Hastings on a regular basis.

Kim Cosmik runs her own event called Hybrid Rave which started in 2019 and has taken place in Hastings, London and Birmingham with a host of artists such as Jerome Hill, Radioactiveman, Syrte, Transparent Sound, Aaron Liberator and No Data Available.

Kim Cosmik also runs her own label called Cybersoul and also releases music on many other labels such as 2020 Vision, Science Cult, Touched Music, Moatun and many more.

Kim Cosmik is a resident at Techno-club.net and also has a radio show on Aaja Radio.

This relatively hard to find mix was given away for free with the February issue of Mixmag in 2001 and comes directly from my CD collection. Entitled "Mixmag Presents Elastic Breaks - The Sound Of Breakbeat mixed by the Plump Djs" it was one sort after mix at the time and one that was on high rotation in my CD player. This mix pretty much launched the careers of the Plump DJs and gained them more of a following on a global scale.
