If you’re bored, are you boring?

Either way, don’t worry - Garvie’s bravely-titled Boring is, thankfully, anything but. This high-energy indie pop stomper is abundantly fun. 

Lyrically, Garvie’s tongue-in-cheek lyrics show a brutal honesty that most people can relate to - don’t we all secretly worry that we’re boring sometimes? “There’s always that person at a party that you don’t want to get stuck chatting to, and sometimes think it might be me” confesses Garvie. “I was always told that if you’re bored, then you’re boring - so when you’re telling a dull story, you’re bringing everyone else down too. It’s almost infectious, which is the idea that birthed a lot of these lyrics - that and What We Do In The Shadows, obviously.” Bear that in mind next time you tell that story with no punchline. 

The production of Boring boring borrows from a number of different areas, but Garvie’s hyperactive and irreverent charm sinks its teeth in almost instantly. A searing, bit-crushed, chromatic guitar riff leads the charge in the chorus, drawing throwback inspiration from acts like Elastica and The Hives, whilst Garvie’s love of bitcrushed gameboy-style synths remains ever-present. Garvie’s hyper-active production style is full of variety, never sitting still for too long - ultimately that’s what drags this song back to the present day and sparks further interest.

There you have it - scrap your exciting 2024 plans and celebrate your vanilla side with Garvie.

Land Of The Living is an Americana-tinged love song. A rousing call to dance in the kitchen and keep the flame alive. An ode to toughing out the hard times and making love last. A foot-stomping celebration of wine on a school night.

Featuring an absolutely joyous bunch of musicians on upright bass, trumpets (wait until you hear the trumpets!), flugel horn and drums, it's like an Appalachian wedding right here in the UK.

Land Of The Living is the first of several 2024 singles from Northumberland-born singer-songwriter Adam Kirkup.

"This song was written and recorded in one day while I was staying with dear friends up north in the country house of Crowmallie. I play every instrument on the track. It is a straight forward love song written to my partner, Artist, Ginny Elston. In this song I allowed myself to simply let the music and lyrics emerge without filtering myself. The song has echoes of songs I wrote in my youth. It’s simplicity and straight forward nature is what made me chose to release it. My influence at the time would be John Steinbeck, he is my favourite author and reading his earnest directness has shaped the way I live my life and create art."

"Spellbinding and intimate" Americana/indie folk.

Adam grew up on the Northumberland coast and starting writing songs at the age of six, recording them onto his dad's tapedeck with a five string guitar.

His first single of 2024, Land Of The Living is a joyous Americana love song, and an anthem for staying home and dancing in the kitchen. BBC Introducing North East said it "has a sincerity that fills you with warmth", and Ear To The Ground said, "the amount of charm in this song is absolutely immeasurable."

Supporting UK country/Americana singer Joe Martin on several of his UK dates in 2024.
