It’s been more than a week since Russia has invaded Ukraine, destroying Ukrainian cities and shattering the lives of millions of people, whose world will never be the same again. The Ukrainian music and culture community is devastated by the shocking crimes of the Russian government. We wish for peace in our country above all, and we are doing everything in our power to support the people of Ukraine. 

Right now It is most critical to raise funds for the Ukrainians bravely defending their country, and for those, who had to leave their homes behind. Therefore, Standard Deviation has joined forces with @Mystictrax — a Ukrainian label run by Lostlojic, for our most important release: РАЗОМ ЗА УКРАЇНУ / TOGETHER FOR UKRAINE — a compilation by 65 Ukrainian and International artists to be sold exclusively via Bandcamp. All profits from this release will be split between the following charity funds, supporting the people of Ukraine:

- The ‘Return Alive’ Fund, helping at the Ukrainian front  
- National Bank of Ukraine Fundraising Account for Humanitarian Assistance 
- ‘Ukraine Pride’ Fund for LGBTQIA+ soldiers and LGBTQIA+ people affected by the war
- ‘Голос Дітей’ Fund, helping children affected by the war

Back To The Beginning

One of the deepest and most popular tracks from the last Amanda Whiting album on Jazzman Records gets a very special remix treatment from Brighton-based producer Chris Cracknell. But this really is much more than a remix. 

With two new vocal additions from PEACH. and Mat Lloyd, this is a reimagining in so many ways.

"The original track felt like it gave me space to reflect on the question ‘where would we be?’ We have such brilliant minds and have the solutions to most of the worlds problems, but yet, here we are. I’m guilty of spending a lot of time in my own mind imagining better futures, personally and globally, and I got thinking maybe if we were more present, instead of imagining these futures we could build them. I wanted to use Amanda’s original track to create a context into which I could present PEACH. and Mat, and their take on these ideas."

Hypnotic drums and bass leave endless space for the poetry to take a powerful centre here, all wrapped in the beauty of Amanda's beguiling playing. 

From Wales, the home of the harp, Amanda has taken her classical roots and forged them in the path of jazz harpists Dorothy Ashby and Alice Coltrane. With her unique style resulting in a nomination for the Jazz FM “2021 Instrumentalist of the Year” award.

She has toured extensively with Matthew Halsall and the Gondwana Orchestra performing at Jazz festivals around the world. More recent collaborations have included recording and touring with Chip Wickham, Greg Foat, D J Yoda and Rebecca Vasmant, with performances at Ronnie Scott’s, Manheim, We Jazz Helsinki and XJazz Berlin to name a few.

Her debut album ‘After Dark’ sold out and was met with great reviews from DJs including Jamie Cullum with a Take 5 appearance on his BBC Radio 2 show.

Elbow Grease is taken from the forthcoming Secluded Bronte album Incidental Games. 

Secluded Bronte - Richard Thomas, Adam Bohman, Jonathan Bohman - formed in London and launched in New York City in 2002. The trio have been likened to This Heat, Wire, The Specials, Talk Talk, The Residents, The Fall, John Cage and Sun Ra, but this doesn’t really touch the sides, Secluded Bronte are unclassifiable.

Since 2020 Secluded Bronte have released six albums on the Ffordd Allan label, an album on Cafe Oto’s Takuroku label, a 7” EP on Felix Kubin’s Apolkalypso label, contributed to several compilation albums and toured extensively throughout Europe and the UK. A new album, Incidental Games, is imminent in late 2024.

The Immediate are a three-piece indie, power pop band from Mold in north Wales.

We release our Mold EP on Friday 3rd March 2017. The EP will be available to buy on limited edition CD and digitally via bandcamp / iTunes etc.

Mold features 4 brand new recordings, 3 of which are exclusive to the EP.

Lead track, What’s The Matter Kevin Jones?, is a song about some of the kids we went to the Alun School with, who weren’t as fortunate as us and didn’t make it into their 30’s. 

Light Dimensions is the first song we wrote when we reconvened after a long hiatus.

Manbuoy is the title track of our forthcoming debut album, however it does not feature on the album itself. It’s a mostly spoken-word piece that exaggerates all of its writer’s worst qualities.

Mold was recorded at Orange Sound Studios in Penmaenmawr, North Wales by Russ Hayes, who has worked on recordings by Peaness, Campfire Social, Kidsmoke, Catfish and the Bottlemen and Billy Bibby and the Wry Smiles.

The sleeve design was done by Paul Maurice from Wrexham. It’s a detail of Shire Hall, the brutalist former seat of Flintshire County Council that sits on a hill, above Mold town centre.

The Mold EP will be launched at a hometown gig at Theatr Clwyd, Mold on Friday, 3rd. March. We’ll be joined by our friends Campfire Social and Skellums. Tickets are £7 and available here:

We originally split in 1997 due to frustration, an argument over a mouth organ and the success of Stereophonics.

We released one single (unaccountably popular in Sweden), made every conceivable mistake in the How To Be A Successful Indie Band handbook, toured with some excellent bands (Mansun, 60ft Dolls, Dodgy) and flickered out, leaving behind the memory of some great gigs, a few fine songs, and little else.

In March 2016, we reconvened to repair friendships and renew tinnitus. New songs came much more easily than the old ones, probably because we are playing to please only ourselves - with no thoughts of success or acclaim - for the first time in our existence.

There is more truth and resonance in our songs now than ever before. And power. And invention. We write songs about hope and love in the face of the moribund, daily grind. 

You will possibly hear fragments and echoes of the following artists in our sound (The Jam, Wire, XTC, Pixies, Badfinger, REM, Dr Feelgood, Small Faces, Husker Du, The Who, Ride, Big Star, The Cure, Joy Formidable, The Go-Betweens, Teenage Fanclub), but nothing has been plagiarised or misappropriated to mask a deficiency of our own ideas.
