Like many producers in the nu-disco scene, Motte first rose to prominence by offering up a string of superb re-edits online. Since then, he's released music on Purple Disco Records and Big Love, and here makes his bow on Yam Who's mighty Midnight Riot label. There's much to enjoy about title track "Darkroom Boogie", a rolling chunk of mid-tempo goodness that brilliantly re-invents an un-credited AOR disco track as a rubbery, funk-fuelled sing-along ripe for peak-time plays. Arguably even better is bonus cut "Mount U", a tidy re-edit of a lesser-celebrated, Solar Records style early '80s electrofunk cut high on punchy horns, elastic synths and eyes-closed male vocals.
