The guest mix in the second hour is by Sam Kitt, a DJ / Producer from North Wales in the UK. His debut EP, “Primary” was released at the end of 2020 and reached No 2 on the Beatport new releases chart. His most recent release “Your Master” came out in April 2022. A prolific producer and a dynamic presence behind the decks, he marries dark, hard hitting basslines with progressive, melancholic melodies.

The guest mix in the second hour is by Nao Tamura who’s from Osaka, Japan and has been a  DJ for 25 years.  Influenced by the music of Yoji Biomehanika, he started as a Psytrance / Hard Trance DJ, In 2021 he met gizm0x, makers of the TB-303 clone, and moved on to Peak Time / Driving Techno, Hard Techno and Melodic Techno.  In 2021 he became a resident DJ at Profoundradio.com in the UK with a regular fortnightly show called ‘Trance Meet Techno.’

Guest mix 2nd hr Brian Vee who’s from Bristol in the UK. He DJ’d at many top venues across England before taking a break from DJ'ing. Then in 2019 he launched the ‘Brian Vee Project’. His unique stripped-down fusion of acid techno, hard house & trance evokes memories of the classic age of rave whilst being firmly rooted in the modern day sound of driving techno. With three releases already this year, including the EP “Defender’, Brian is a prolific producer. Three of his own tracks are included in the set he’s done for us. He’s also used vocal samples from the 80’s and 90’s, producing a set that is both new & familiar at the same time.

In his mixes the kicks have an air of unagitated coolness but there’s always a bouncy lightness underneath leaving space for vocals, melodies and special effects. He’s played in clubs like Butan & RedCatLounge and has also DJ’d at many underground raves. He has his own podcast, MonoTon, on his Soundcloud page.

When he was in his teens he built a soundsystem known as 'Concept 60 Free' with his friend Luke Teknology & threw free parties in muddy fields & abandoned warehouses. He quickly built a reputation for upbeat, euphoric & playful DJ sets. His first release 'System Addict' came out in late 2015 & he’s had releases on Amsterdam's 'Anarkick Records', Montreal's 'AlpaKa MuZiK', and Israel's 'Sol Music Records'. His DJ-ing has taken him all over the world including Goa, Koh Phangan and Melbourne.

The guest mix in the second hour is by Ivan Balague aka Troy Evans is from Tarragona in Spain. He began his DJ career in 2008 playing deep house, then later house and tech house, in local bars and pubs. He moved on to Techno in 2018. His first release, a collab with Magic Gas, came out on Moonlife Records in 2023. The pair have also created their own event brand, Raw Techno.

He recently founded his own label, Hapoi Records, which released a “Best Of Maurice Burgbacher’ compilation this month, Dec 2023. The mix he’s done for us contains all his own productions. His sound is driving, peak time techno.

His sets and productions are characterized by impactful sounds that maintain a constant danceable rhythm along with explosive drops. He makes exclusive edits for his DJ sets to engage the audience and leave his own unique mark which he calls Fantastic Techno. The set you’re about to hear was recorded before Christmas at the Techno Stage in Club Ambar, Santiago, Chile and we’ve just got our hands on it. The guest mix in the second hour is by Tobi Tobermann, a DJ / Producer from Frankfurt-am-Main in Germany. He learnt how to DJ in the late 90’s on vinyl and for many years played an active part in the techno scene until the demands of his professional career took him away from music. He returned to the decks in 2020 and his style is Peak Time and Acid Techno. His latest track, a collab with Dennis Nocken, was released by Red Channel Records in 2023 and you can hear it at the end of his set.

What and who is A Darker Wave?
We are a duo (jacki-e & p-mac) who present our own radio show every Saturday at 10pm UK, 11pm CET on both NLive Radio https://.nliveradio.com and Circl8 Radio https://.circl8radio.com. The show is repeated on Sundays at 3am UK, 4am CET on Echo Radio https://www.echoradio.vip/. We put the show together in our home studio. The show is streamed worldwide on the internet. Each show is posted on our Soundcloud, Mixcloud, Hearthis.at, Podbean and You Tube pages once it has been streamed.
We also play gigs as A Darker Wave and we have played at events in Germany and all over the UK.
The music we play is techno, tech house, deep house and anything else we like enough to include in the show.
Each show is 2 hours long. In the first hour we go into the mix with our featured EP of the week and the best of the new releases.
In the second hour we invite new and upcoming DJs to come onto the show and do a guest mix.

Why are you called A Darker Wave?
Dark Wave was first used in the 1980s to describe a dark and melancholy variant of new wave and post-punk music and was first applied to UK musicians such as Bauhaus, Joy Division, Sisters of Mercy, Cocteau Twins, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Depeche Mode and Anne Clark. It was also used to describe artists who combined music with performance art, such as Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire, who challenged and explored the darker and obsessive sides of the human condition.

A lot of techno takes its spirit and ethos from this music, Listen to Throbbing Gristle or Cabaret Voltaire and you can hear the industrial sounds which are a staple of techno music today.

Techno is the outsider of electronic dance music, the punk of today's modern music scene. As Dave Clarke said in an interview with Mixmag, " Techno is edgy. Techno will challenge you......it's the real dark art."

Our radio show, in presenting the best in underground techno and deep house music, and in giving an opportunity for new, up and coming DJ's and producers, is providing an outlet for new techno, which is best described as being the new wave of modern dance music.

Not just a new wave, but with it's incessant bass rumblings, synthesiser drones, pounding drums, melodic top notes and eerie, distorted vocal samples, techno, in all its forms, is a backdrop to and a critique of our post-industrial, consumerist society, one in which our actions are observed 24/7, our democratic freedoms are threatened by our very own governments and our rights to do, think and act as we please are under ever increasing scrutiny. Techno really is A Darker Wave.

When we were listening to music in the 60’s and 70’s, before the electronic tentacles of technology infiltrated the world, we often thought, whilst listening to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Hawkwind, Captain Beefhart, New York Dolls and Roxy Music, where would music go to in the future? It could never be what was being portrayed in the science fiction movies of the time. Now we know. It can be anything. When we have a recording studio in our own home which is more powerful and versatile than anything available back then, we now know music can be anything and go anywhere. It is only the spark of our imaginations, or lack of it, that holds us back. On our laptop computers we have the capabilities that many artists back then would have given their right arms for. It’s for the uniqueness of the artist to express themselves to be able to stand out from the deluge of music available. Finding those gems is the modern day equivalent of crate digging and when you do, it makes it all worthwhile. Long live music!!!!
