Das wollen die Bedroomproducer am Freitag herausfinden. Bei dem beliebten Format Gegen die Zeit treten drei mutige Producer gegen eine KI an. Die Aufgabe lautet, in 60 Minuten aus einer Songvorgabe einen Remix zu machen. So sind die Bedingungen für alle gleich. Die Ergebnisse werden anonym vorgespielt. Wer am Ende das Duell Mensch gegen Maschine gewinnt, entscheidet ihr am kommenden Freitag ab 20 Uhr im Sputnik.

DJ Shadow, widely acknowledged as a crucial figure in the development of experimental, instrumental hip-hop, has returned with ‘The Mountain Will Fall’ via Mass Appeal Records [and Believe Digital in France], his first full length release since 2011. The 12-track album finds DJ Shadow exploring new realms in addition to the deep samples and kinetic soundscapes that helped to launch his career 20 years ago. On ‘The Mountain Will Fall’ he’s shifted further toward original composition, a vast experimentation of beats and textures, synthesizers and live instruments including horns and woodwinds. The album features Run The Jewels, Nils Frahm, Matthew Halsall, Ernie Fresh and more.

Was passiert, wenn ein Musiker die Aufgabe bekommt, aus dem Stück eines anderen Musiker etwas Neues, etwas Anderes zu machen? Hinzufügen, weglassen, Strukturen schieben, unendliche Möglichkeiten – aber so, dass sowohl eine eigene Handschrift klar erkennbar ist als auch das Wesen des ursprünglichen Songs noch durchscheint. Das erfordert Empathie. Die Bedroomproducers Paderborn – eine Gemeinschaft von Klangtüftlern und Produzenten – haben sich an dieses Unterfangen gewagt und sich gegenseitig Stücke zugeschoben. Auf Basis der Tracks aus dem Sampler „Der Ton der Region“, welcher Ende 2015 auf Different Trains Records veröffentlicht wurde, sind daraus Remixe entstanden. Zwei Seiten einer Medaille, wenn man so möchte. Und ein Beispiel für den Zusammenhalt einer subkulturellen Gemeinschaft in der ostwestfälischen Provinz.

Last spotted on Eskimo back in the distant days of 2019, London based duo Horixon return with The Beekeeper, a collaboration with Belgian singer and one half of Hydrogen Sea, Birsen. An understated leftfield pop gem, The Beekeeper's skeletal, dub inflected, rhythms, melancholic piano melody and subtly tropical percussion provide the perfect, balmy, backing for Birsen's gentle, lilting vocals. The perfect soundtrack to lying in a hammock and watching the world around you drift by. 

Providing a counterpoint to the more organic, and warm, sounding original Norwegian duo Atella's remix keeps The Beekeeper's slow tempo and dub vibe but brings both their banks of synthesisers and a Nordic touch to the party. Whilst the original whispered of a still, warm summer's day the track's glacial tempo is now matched by icey cool synth arpeggios that glisten and sparkle like frost catching the morning light, whilst Birsen's voice takes on an even more fragile and beautiful timbre.
