Part of our 'Orchestra of Samples' project, 'Return of Django' features well known French artist DJ Zebra on guitar alongside Daniel Correa‘s gaita flute recorded in Colombia.  The enigmatic ‘wild west movie’ vibe is driven by the slow beating congas of Cyrille Lecoq and the strange rotating ‘blow pipes’ invented by musician Nicolas Bras, both recorded in France. Samples recorded in the UK include world renowned percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie on ethereal sounding crotales and Kat Richmond on violin, alongside further percussion recorded in Brazil and Colombia.

Return Of Django - ADDICTIVE TV

Named after the main instrument, the ribab - a single string violin-style instrument we recorded in Morocco, the track’s laid back ska-like vibe features calypso-influenced guitar recorded in Colombia and vocals recorded in India. Other field-recordings sampled include flute, drums, congas, west African kalimba and a Dominican güira percussion scraper adding that swishy groove before the whole track's very mellow ending with celtic harp, glass pyramids and piano. "Ribab Jam"

The track takes its name from the ethereal sound of the Cristal Baschet (pronounced “bash shay”)recorded in France and the main string rhythm is a Turkish tanbur played by Korkutalp Bilgin, recorded in Istanbul. We recorded the kora sampled on this track way back in 2010 in Senegal, where we also recorded Senegalese rap star Matador who lends his voice to the track.  The drums were recorded in France with renowned drummer Cyril Atef and backing vocals sampled from an improvised session with French acapella band Ommm. We found a wonderful acoustic guitar loop, originally improvised by our colleague Alejandro de Valera and it fitted perfectly with a sampled flute we'd recorded also in France with Mathieu Sérot some years earlier and it sounded like the pair were playing together! "Sundown (That's A Fact)"

We began with recording the haunting vocals of American singer/songwriter Theo Hakola. An equally haunting melody was cut together from samples of piano we’d recorded with Chris Birkett and vocals of Brazilian Andréa dos Santos singing tribal songs, evoking memories of indigenous people of the Americas, counterpointing Theo’s lyrics. "The American"

Born in India, blinded as a small child to being awarded an OBE in 2017, Baluji Shrivastav is one of the best sitar players in the world.  We recorded him at home and picked out a few choice cuts and spliced them together to create the main melody.  The track also features samples from improvised sessions with French singer Aurélie ‘Lilly’ Jung and tabla virtuoso player Kuljit Bhamra MBE. The first track worked on for the project and is full of unconventional samples from car-exhaust-pipe-hitting eco-band Patubatê (Brazil’s answer to a junk-recycling Stomp) to Israeli “beatbox style” instrumental vocalist Nir Yaniv and kids-toy-circuit-bender Lorenzo Mos from Italy to many more! ADDICTIVE TV BIOGRAPHY

Once so eloquently described as ‘next level shit’ by Grandmaster Flash, British collective Addictive TV create music with a difference; it's music you can see.  They’re “responsible for mind-bending live entertainment” according to UK newspaper The Times, and US entertainment magazine Paste said “Addictive TV completely blew my mind! …a compelling pop-culture audio/visual avalanche!” whilst in the past, DJ Magazine previously voted them twice #1 VJ in the World alongside their Top 100 DJ Poll, saying “they’ve become famed for their eye-popping live shows, shredding and cutting film with beats into a heady, mind-meltingly funky mixture”.

Created by filming over 200 musicians around the globe improvising, Addictive TV then sampled and seamlessly spliced them together into a digital supergroup of international artists who never met but play together on screen!
