Description: This is my first track using 'time stretch'. I took a simple 4 note piano chord, stretched it, added delay and reverb, reversed it, added more delay, stretched that, reversed it yet again and then added the final delay and reverb. Added synth sounds from the Behringer Kobol Expander. The higher percussive notes represent the pointy pine needles and the swept noise represents the wind.

My favorite from #575! Very good! I love how the bass comes in

Kagami Shikō was a Japanese poet, considered one of the ten outstanding disciples of Matsuo Bashō. He was in turn the master of the famous poetess Fukuda Chiyo-ni.

Originally from the present-day Gifu Prefecture, Kagami Shikō became a monk at Daichi-ji Temple, and in 1690 he became a pupil of Bashō, later accompanying him on some of his journeys and recording his last will in 1694.

After Basho's death, he kept travelling around Japan, writing several essays on haiku and collections of writings until his death in 1731.

Even Though Afar ( Naviarhaiku 575 )

This strange little tune uses only the single spoken word 'pine' as it's sole source material, making use of various forms of sampling and manipulation, including the wonderful Synplant 2 ... Enjoy! 😁

Although be careful, it's so odd the SC algorithm has warned me it won't be recommending it to potentially interested listeners ... Presumably, it's not considered 'music' by the machine?! Result! 😜

The inclusion of the lake and reflections in the image that goes with the poem definitely influenced the final result.  Everything was made with a single patch using Voltage Modular which was manipulated and recorded to multiple tracks in one "Live" take.  There were options for further subtle variation built into the patch but when I came to map physical controls I didn't have enough knobs and sliders to use them all.

Coolness feeling

Recorded, mixed & mastered on 16 Jan 2025 by Jim Lemanowicz at Blissville Electro-Magnetic Laboratories of Massapequa. 

Using an AI-generated drum generator I had put together this week, I generated some midi, used some for bass and some for drums. I won't get into too many details but the sustained sound is a bassoon or sample or something. It reminded me a little of Cale's viola on the first VU.

For this I thought of some innocent with headphones on...in some 80s shock suspense horror film out for a walk after an argument with the parents unaware that they were being followed by some evil thing. Kind of lulled away from intense emotion and zoning out to something not too engaging but not without movement. Maybe the result of the Walkman's radio dial getting stuck after the device was thrown.

This might sound contrived but as I was coming up with this I was thinking of David Lynch's Wild At Heart and the loop of Wicked Game in the car crash scene. This was about 45 min before I knew he had died. I am sad beyond belief.
