Music has the power to be a really beautiful thing. It marks certain moments in time that you carry with you your whole life. When ever you hear certain tracks they transport you right back to some place wonderful. I'm madly in love with my girlfriend Christina and went with her in 2012 to Lightning in a bottle where I played this set. LIB is a wonderful and diverse festival on the West coast of America. It was Christina's and my first festival together. I wanted to make it a really really special trip and decided beforehand to play only for her that day inspired by, and full of, my love for the most gorgeous, lovely and sweet girl I've ever met.

LIGHTNING IN A BOTTLE 2012 PART TWO

In Hour 2 we welcome Stephen Mallinder, a founding member of the hugely influential Cabaret Voltaire, who were pioneers in British experimental electronic, industrial music and visual art. He joins the Solid Steel 25th Anniversary celebrations and says of his mix ;

"A selection of music from peers, associates, co-conspirators, influences and baton-carriers. Starting with early head-turners This Heat (1978) and filtered  through the mix claps from composer Steve Reich (1972) onto post-punkers 23 Skidoo who I'd gigged and recorded with. 
A couple of FSOL tracks - covert Cabs somewhere in there and back up north to Sheffield's first real label WARP - the original Forgemasters reworked by bleepers Unique 3, The Black Dog posse and sonic provocateurs supreme, Autechre. An offering from my own Cabaret Voltaire - a rework of Yashar with the original 70 billion people sample. Keith le Blanc and co - Major Malfunction, classic tough electro, there's a whole history from Sugarhill to Tackhead in there. And rounded  off with our one-time co-conspiritor On-U's Adrian Sherwood's mix of metal-machiners Einstürzende Neubauten, complete with sniff sample.

All spiced with some period spoken word courtesy of Malcolm X, Mr Burroughs and JG Ballard stories and lovingly mixed by hand.

Thomaas Banks is the latest musical project from Thomas Coveney, one half of the prolific UK duo Psychemagik. His new alias however will see him drift away from his output of more deep and melodic house material with now showcasing a harder motif focusing on gritty textures and breakbeat rhythms.

Thomaas had this to say about the vision behind this new mix: "Breaks never left and I still fucking love ‘em! Ive been loving the output from labels like Private Persons & CPU. The crunched breaks sound is just naughty and super sexy!"

What's next for Thomaas Banks? Expect a plethora of releases in the next few months from the Thomaas Banks project as well as Psychemagik and his other project Apollo View.

Magda initially connected with T.B. Arthur while he was working at Hard Wax, the infamous Berlin record store. Their first release reflected a shared fascination with live electronics. Blotter Trax then evolved into a driving main floor act with releases on Frustrated Funk (via Rotterdam’s legendary Clone Records), a UK live debut at Fabric, London and their first live tour of Japan. 

Blotter Trax are currently recording an album, featuring contributions from artists including Nina Hynes, Ilhem Khodja, Hannes Strobl and Shigeru Tanabu. Magda and T.B. Arthur recently premiered their new Blotter Trax live set in Berlin and Sofia, featuring this new material.

This is the latest mix of the saga
It is mid 2004 and with my buddy Ennio Colaci and designer Piero Fragola we gave birth to the WERK night in Florence , hosting for the very first time in Italy people like Matthew Johnson, Daniel Bell, Jay Haze among others.
This mix tells about the development of the berlin sound into more minimal and electronic directions and includes some of the masterpieces of that period released on labels like Perlon, Logistic, Ghostly, Circus Company and many labels that were flourishing in those years.

There are  early Mathew Jonson works and  Audion’s tunes, it includes tracks from artists like Robag Whrume, Plastikman,  James Holden, Ark, Dan Bell and of course it does include Villalobos first masterpiece album on playhouse..The rest is recent story :)

Terry Francis is one of the London old school who made in-roads into the house & techno scene in the late 80s. Co-owner of the Wiggle events & label Terry is a brilliant turntable technician who’s DJ sets are all about having as much fun & causing as much mischief as possible while twisting the madness that little but further. One of the true gentlemen of our scene, Terry is the real deal, a hilarious character & has a heart of gold to boot. I love Terry Francis.
