The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.

I'd be lying if I said it was easy to play a sunsrise set at burning man... especially at robot heart.  I had to literally help pull an ancient cow statue down from the top of the heart two years ago to be sent to Germany.  It's like I had to do these ancient quests and other sunset sets to be put in the position to play this past burn, so i was not taking that lightly.  By sheer coincidence I found myself in Reno the night before this and drove straight from my set there to the middle of the desert to a gps location at 5:30 in the morning.  I prepared myself for the sunrise; I knew there would be some doubters, but that just made me work harder... oh and I was on acid.  I think it may have been the best dj set of my life so far ..

Defected Broadcasting House - Episode #2 - April 2022

There's a track on HAAi's upcoming debut album, Baby, We're Ascending, called "Louder Always Better." That kind of sums up her approach right there. (See also: "Biggest Mood Ever.") Since her first record, 2017's "Be Good" her approach to dance music has been to make as dense, overwhelming and uplifting as possible. Much has been made of her background in psychedelic rock, which definitely informs records like the muggy, intense Motorik Voodoo Bush Doof Musik, but it's not the whole story. A better point of reference might be DJ Harvey lost in the Australian desert, but comparisons are beside the point. At this point, HAAi is completely unique.

The Australian producer has made quite a name for herself as a DJ in her adopted hometown of London, and while her album shoots off in all directions—from ecstatic rave-pop to sultry stunners—her RA Podcast captures the spark that makes her such a beloved force behind the decks. Weaving powerful techno from artists like Atrip and Piska Power with weirder, adventurous music courtesy of Cocktail Party Effect and Sha Sha Kimbo—plus a few tastes of HAAi's new album—it's an eclectic mix that's as windy and unpredictable as her records. Plus, it ends with classic track by The Cure. That's just good taste.

ADIN, spearheads the forefront of a flurry of talented techno producers to come out of the Netherlands. But unlike a large wealth of his native counterparts, Adin’s story has seen the DJ craft his unique sonic style through a colourful past, and amalgamation between the dark and light of his life.

Making a rapid and far-reaching impact on the electronic music scene over the course of his double-decade career, it was the move from Adin’s war-torn birthplace of Bosnia to a Rotterdam record store in his youth that marked the first stepping stone on his eventual ladder to success. Taking early inspiration from iconic producers such as Masters At Work, Roger Sanchez and Erick Morillo, it was his dub mix of Sandy Rivera’s ‘Freak’ on Simon Dunmore’s Defected Records that was championed all over the scene. 

By 2007, Adin had become one of the most in-demand artists in the business, touring worldwide with a schedule of more than 30 shows per month. A technical wizard on the decks, his obsession with house, techno and multiple sub-genres shone through immediately. Stepping things up a notch, it was a meeting with Pasquale Rotella that changed the course of Adin’s future as he switched the melodic sounds of his EDC NY set to more dark and industrial tones half-way through the performance. The brave and somewhat adventurous gamble was wholeheartedly rewarded, with Ajdin’s performance ranked as one of Rolling Stone’s “25 raviest moments of EDC.”

Always one to go with the moment rather than to meticulously plan out sets, it is this party-ready approach that saw him become a key member of Insomniac’s events early on, playing further sets at EDC Orlando, Mexico, Japan and the Las Vegas showpiece event. Now firmly established as one of Holland’s finest techno exports, Adin has also performed at Mysteryland, Sensation, Creamfields, Elrow, the iconic Womb Tokyo venue, Free Your Mind Festival and Free Your Mind with Sasha and John Digweed.

Having honed his craft on vinyl long before his 2004 debut in the production studio, ADIN has amassed universal plaudits via his insatiable back catalogue, vibrant track selections and instinctive ability to read a crowd. Making incredible music that resonates further than just the confines of gruff dancefloor beats  ADIN  has garnered a reputation as an innovative and forward-thinking producer & DJ, fusing his driven tones with an emotional blend of melodic techno. Sharing my original work. One bass, one planet, one people

I am looking for acid house/house songs, mainly 12 inch vinyls from 1989-1999.  I'm also looking for old mix tapes, like Jeno's or Garth's Coming Down Massive, anything from Jeno, Markie, Garth, the wicked sounds, Steve Loria and Doc Martin (LA). I'd love to connect with ravers in LA, that went to F.A.M.I.L.Y. shows or similar, hearing Garth, Doc Martin and Loria spin together with some amazing line ups, like Josh Winks, the one and only Francois K.

I have whole bunch of old vinyl I have converted and am willing to share. I've got stuff like Danny T's remix of Supernature (Cerrone) or VIM's Maggie's Last Party, a whole bunch of Ustar, Idjut boys, nuphonic, and more.
