I smiled to the bird on Jupiter
for solo organ
is written in 2019 as a commission from organ musician Jan Lehtola and Tampere Biennale festival. Lehtola first performed it in April 2020 on the organ of Tampere Cathedral, and after that played it again on the same organ in November 2021, and on the organ of the Helsinki Cathedral in October 2021.
The work was chosen as one of the 12 nominees to the Teosto Prize 2022.

I Smiled To The Bird On Jupiter

Composed in 2011 for Eva Alkula and Jenni Vartiainen, who first performed it in Willa Mac, Tampere, on 27.11.2011. The piece is performed by the same musicians on this recording, and also on the cd released in 2015 by IMU-nkkoon musiikki.

Composer Paola Livorsi about Ua hoi!: "In this work the two instruments are uned differently, one in the common diatonic scale, the other in microintervals carefully established by the composer. The piece begins "narrando" (telling a story): the second instrument is an odd brother of the first, repeating all what it says, but in a different scale. The work is built upon a portion of mostly diatonic scales. Mirrors and comparisons succeed themselves, bringing the two systems face to face.  The game continues within the low register, till the scales become bichords of minor thirds (where the particularity of the tuning is yet more evident): suddenly the players' voices appear, pronouncing the syllables "ua ua" as a third sound added to the bichords; they evolve into "ba ba" and finally into "ua hoi!". The shouts are accompanied by clusters and percussive sounds on the soundboard of the instruments. Harmonic sounds lead to a calmer part, with resonant chords, marked "Cielo. Interludio". It is followed by Terra, where both instruments play fast glissandi up and down. Then restarts the confrontation in thirds, to give place to the invention-like patterns of the first part. The piece ends on whole tones and tritones, which put in evidence the difference of the tuning systems. The piece is very playful and the unconventional use of the voice is well integrated in its original sound world."

Adina Dumitrescu, "Lundi rue Christine" for saxophone, viola and piano
Trio ALTO (Daniel Kientzy, Cornelia Petroiu, Mihai Vartosu)

Adina Dumitrescu was born in Bucharest, Romania. She studied composition at the Academy of Music in Bucharest, taught musical informatics and Romanian folklore and obtained in 2005 a PhD in musicology with her thesis On melodies and melody. Adina Dumitrescu is the composer of almost fifty works: symphonic, choral, concertos, vocal and instrumental chamber music, as well as music for the theatre, radio and television. 

Adina Dumitrescu: Lundi rue Christine

Tuned To The Real World is a microtonal work. It has 5 movements, called Preludes (Optimism, Denial, Admiration, Doubt and Diagnostic). The instruments are tuned in 31-edo tuning system.
The musician are Eva Alkula, Jenny Vartiainen and Heidi Äijälä and the performance took place in Copenhagen, Nordic Music Days Festival, Sept. 2015.

Tuned To The Real World for kantele trio

This is a trio for clarinet, viola and piano performed by TampereRaw ensemble in the art museum Willa Mac, Tampere, Finland, September 2012. The occasion was a concert organised by composer Paavo Korpijaakko, as a gift to the museum for its many years of dedication to the contemporary music. The concert was the last public event hosted by Willa Mac. My trio is inspired by two sides of the Spanish painter Joan Miró's art, the infinite silence in his Landscapes and the colourful, vivid view towards the world.
