A good song is like a sneeze- you just can't contain it within for long! Here's my attempt of my latest favourite.

Have found it impossible to slip to an old varnam I learnt from my grandmom while singing this song (Vanajaaksha), so I have concluded that the tune must be in Behag/ Biyaag raag. Puritans may decide to differ, hence apologies for the mistaken identity!

Wasn't able to find anyone to mix the song, so I've decided to upload it without any effects except a very mild reverb.

My heartfelt pranaams to Chithra aunty and ARRahman for giving us this pristine tune that's nothing short of divine! _/\_

Sometimes, vocal-cut tracks and not-so-good recording set-ups don’t seem to deter the urge to record a song that has been haunting one for a long time. This being one of my most favourite classical-based numbers, I couldn’t wait for a better track and have wanted to scratch this song off my to-do list for many months.

This is an 18-month-old recording. Thanks to Hari Bhaskar for the track and also for mixing it initially for a personal album. Unfortunately, I have not been able to locate the mixed version he sent to me. Hence, I had to have it mixed again through Vishnu Mohan. Thanks a ton, Vishnu, for bearing with my constant nudges to get this done :)

Mahendran is one of the greatest directors Indian cinema has seen. Jhonny is an epic movie from almost all aspects, especially the music and re-recording. Sridevi’s character and her unconditional, uncanny affection for Rajini in the movie touches our hearts and stays indelible there. This song is one of the most sung by aspiring singers in competitions and live shows.

Another long pending song gets ticked off my wishlist! I simply adore this song for the almost impossible task of perfecting the nuances. A good challenge always excites an artist but the outcome completely leaves the listener to its mercy, depending on which side of the performance spectrum it slants towards. I will be elated if I got atleast a pass mark from you :)

I have to mention about the scene sequence. I will rank this scene as the worst love scene shot in Tamil Cinema. First of all, it was a sheer waste of copious amount of water in the name of indoor rain. The facial expressions of Lakshmi and Shivakumar make us wonder if it is some spoof of a love scene. Both of them fail to deliver the message that it is an erotic scene, making it an awkward experience for us viewers. The director has avoided vulgarity by clothing them both from neck to foot, instructing the hero to strictly not move from where he is standing and solely relies on the rain to convey the message of lust. In those days, when you saw it raining in a shot, you could easily guess that there is going to be a கிளுகிளு scene coming up. Thus this one takes the cake as a பேத்தல் scene in totality! :D

But the song is a masterpiece in SJanaki- IR combination and will live forever in our hearts! There is a terrific female duet in this movie which I would love to cover with some talented Muzibian soon :)
