Since his first club residencies in 1988, Paul has remained devoted to underground music and culture.

His DJ sets are journeys into the varied shades and tones of dance music. His live sets fuse dub techno, electro and ambience.

Paul has released music on Exalt Records, Diffuse Reality, Roulette Rekordz, Pulse State, CyberSoul and his own labels Hierophant Dubs & Hierophant Records. Forthcoming music for 2024 includes the final part of the Watching the Decoys trilogy and other music for old friends and new labels; the journey continues...

Paul also hosts the “State of Play” radio show, broadcast monthly on @threadsradio and existing on (and off) air since 1990, ad-hoc but always focused on “electronics with soul and soulful electronics”.

"This 45 minute live set for Loose Lips was made using an Elektron Digitakt and two Elektron Digitones. As with all my live sets, there’s a lot of improvisation involved and I strive to make the music varied and immersive so we can go on a deep journey with our emotions and bodies. We welcome our next guest. Berwick is a Sheffield by Bristol DJ and producer focused on esoteric, rave-infused sounds encompassing a dance floor and environments that have inspired his music. His style runs through various BPMs and blends ambience and bliss into sharp electro, techno and breaks. Berwick is the co-founder of INDECENCY, a DIY party that hosts live electronic acts and DJs. With a release on SSS records getting support from Bambounou, Solid Blake, Lena Willikens, Anastasia Kristensen and many more high-calibre artists, Berwick is lining up for more sharp electro releases later on in the year. Berwick’s recent release on More Cowbell has had support from Blumitsu, Lena Willikens and Re:ni whilst also getting premiered by Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC Radio 6. His latest project brings drum machines and a modular synth together to create an hour of fun-fuelled electro and techno with wobbly, acid lines and hard percussion that keep crowds moving.

Which artists has influenced you the most? 

- I’ve taken a lot of influence across a range of different genres to be honest. My sound and production style has an analog, electro tinge which I think has been guided by some magnificent artists like Radioactive Man, Surgeons Girl, Machine Woman, Karenn, Neil Landstrumm, Barker and so many others, I could really go on and on.

What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future? 

- I’ve got two releases set to come out from September onwards which I’m really excited about. The two tracks are a bit of a different style for me but I’m really happy with how they have turned out and the labels and artists I’ll be alongside are artists I find really inspiring. My main focus at the moment is my live set. I’ll be debuting it on Rinse FM really soon and the taking off to a few festivals in the UK.

Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now? 

- There’s some incredible labels that I’ve been digging into recently but to be honest I’m still so addicted to bbbbbb, Voam, Fever Am and Kalahari Oyster Cult. My goal is to work up to potentially releasing on one of these in the near future!

What inspires you now to create music? 

- Sooo many inspirations, being out in nature is probably one of the biggest for me. If I can find time throughout the week to walk, run or swim then I know it’s like a creative boost/reset for me. Equally gigs and festivals. Seeing other people shine and create an atmosphere is incredibly inspiring and usually after being in something like that I’m straight into the studio and creating sounds.

What set-up do you use when creating music?

- Currently I’m using some Elektron gear, so I use the Analog Rytm, Syntakt and the Octatrack and then I have the modular system which is a wonderful sound design tool. I’ve been building up the modular synth for quite a while now and swapped quite a few things in and out but I think I’ve found a set up that really works for me. And of course Ableton, everything goes into Ableton but it’s also nice to spend a bit of time just in the DAW, I try and switch it up quite a bit and resample lots in Ableton.

Cruise into the blooming season with a nearly two-hour, live jam session composed of all original material by Trichome. The LA-based electro ally has been DJing since 1998 and making his own music on and off since 2001. Last April I saw him play a live set at the revitalized Harvest party alongside Carl Finlow/Silicon Scally, ADJ, 214 and Mad Wax...an incredible night for electro in Los Angeles! Trichome's music appears on both of ADJ and Veronica Green's "Earthlings" compilations, which raise funds for World Animal Protection, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending animal suffering.
